This chapter describes the similarities and differences between management and military science. The description is focused on the notion that is strategic for management, namely – the organization culture. Military science shares many common elements with management science. It is the organization culture that may decide about both the performance of an organization and the result of a military conflict.

This paper attempts to evaluate the factors of cultural assimilation of the youngest generation of the Arabs, who were born and live in the 'old continent' or came to Europe when they were children and do not know the realities of the Arab world, they were not socialized in it or their socialization has just entered into the secondary phase. The article is based both on the theoretical analysis of the realities of contemporary Europe heterogeneous from the culture related point of view but being entangled in demographic problems and suffering from the flood of refugees and migrants from Africa, Asia and the Middle East, as well as on the empirical research done on the young generation of the so called 'Euro Arabs', who are representatives of the Arab world from 15 countries, living in Europe and that are the peculiar cultural hybrid which combines the elements of mass culture and tradition.

В European culture — the product of Western civilization that grew on the pillars of multiculturalism, expansion and progress. It is a place where for centuries a melting pot of cultures has been a natural driving force of progress and development, to which Europe owes not only its wealth. Europe also owes demographic problems to this, which today constitute the most important subject of scientific debate on the future of Europe and opportunities to maintain the achievements of the past, the level of civilization built by generations. 'Glass walls' invoked in the title of the article are of symbolic nature , no mention is made of real barriers known in history as the Great Wall of China, the Berlin Wall, Hadrian's Wall and others. It is about mental and invisible walls fo-cused around attitudes such as the ethnic and cultural distance, as well as intolerance and prejudices against any otherness. We live in Europe — a place where the foundations were laid for western civilization, from where for nearly half a millennium rays of splendor and development have been reaching almost every corner of the world; we live in a place that has been building its power not only through progress and development, but also blood and suffering. We must not forget the wealth of nations, from which we draw, the achievements of science, which illuminated the darkness of medieval Europe. In gratitude let us create a world friendly for 'foreigners' and demolish walls erected before our eyes. Marek Bodziany

TThe COVID-19 pandemic and its implications have had a devastating impact on the business sector worldwide, especially on the SMEs’ sector. By highlighting the evolution, and so the specificity, of the Polish SMEs’ sector, by reference to the concept of learning organization, this paper
queried the sources of the Polish SMEs’ unsatisfactory response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications. A survey (n = 147) conducted among a sample of Polish SMEs revealed that the Polish
SMEs, in general, did not recognize the salience of managerial skills in building their capacity to withstand a crisis. Creating growth opportunities, rather than accumulating and operationalizing
their organization’s knowledge, were stressed as the way of navigating challenges. This paper offers an insight into selected factors that influenced Polish SMEs’ sector during the COVID-19 pandemic,
and suggests some ways of addressing problems thus identified.

The cognitive purpose of the research presented in the article is to identify the propensity for pro-social and altruistic behavior among first-year military students (of basic training) in three simulated situations of need for help to other people. It raised the question contained in the main research problem: to what extent do military students at universities tend to behave in a pro-social and altruistic way in situations that pose a threat to the other people’s life and health, and what is the relationship between these behaviors and socialization in the civil environment? At the outset, the hypothesis was adopted that the candidates for professional soldiers show (or at least should show) a higher propensity for this type of behavior. For its verification, the population of the first-year military students during their basic training was assumed as a research area. The study covered 246 people (85 women and 161 men) selected randomly from among military students in the first year of studies of the command profile (major in management and command studies) of all military specialties and the medical profile. The selection of the research sample based on first-year students during the basic training (1 month of service) aimed to identify the impact of environmental factors (primary and secondary socialization as a "civilian") on the tendency to altruistic and pro-social behavior in two different groups of candidates for professional soldiers.

Katolická církev proti sovietizaci kultury a polské společnosti v komunikaci polského velvyslanectví ve Vatikánu v letech 1956-1968 Abstract: The article aims to present the culture-forming role of the Catholic Church, which emerges from selected communications of the Polish Embassy at the Vatican, in opposition to the sovietisation of Polish culture developed by the communist authorities of the People's Republic of Poland in the years 1956-1968. Materials from the Archive of the Józef Piłsudski Institute in America and available literature constituted the basis for the analysis. The undertaken research considering the sources fills a significant gap in the knowledge about the Catholic Church's opposition to the process of sovietisation of Polish culture during the Cold War. It should be emphasised that in the postwar period the Church was the institution that shaped Christian values and a kind of "bastion" of resistance to the authorities whose one of the goals was to sovietise Polish culture. It continued the discourse on the ground of the expression of the inability to reconcile the communist ideology with Christian values in European, including Polish, culture. It also acted as a correspondent for the affairs of oppressed nations subjected to the course of sovietisation. The undertaken research is an answer for lack of knowledge on the Catholic Church opposition towards the process of sovietising Polish culture during the Cold War. All the above allows the hypothesis that the Catholic Church during this period was the only one successful opposition to the PRL authorities which were against the Polish culture and society.

Purpose-The purpose of this paper is to identify common and differentiating (external and internal) factors of motivation of the subordinates in the Polish uniformed services such as the armed forces, the fire service and the police. Moreover, this study aims to explore their relationship with the specificity of the profession and the selected socio-professional variables shaping their needs and value systems. Design/methodology/approach-To achieve the research objective, the research problem has been specified: Which factors are universal and which significantly differentiate the strategies of motivating soldiers, firefighters and police officers? Therefore, the hypothesis assumes that motivating strategies in the examined institutions (uniformed services) depend not only on their structural and functional or legal and organizational culture specificity but also on the individual needs related to the position, corps (officer/ noncommissioned officer), an individual system of values and social factors such as material and social. Methods were based on the survey research technique on a deliberately selected sample of soldiers and officers occupying different positions. Findings-The research results have a dual character. On the one hand, they confirm the effectiveness of financial factors in the motivating process in the organization, and on the other hand, they show the specifics of total institutions, in which, apart from financial motivators, promotion and position in the hierarchy are important. Research limitations/implications-The main limitation of this study was the availability of respondents and their willingness to consent to the study. It is probably related to the nature of the organizations surveyed. It aims to explore their relationship with the specificity of the profession and the selected socioprofessional variables shaping their needs and value systems. Five motivators were adopted for the study, including two material ones, cash prizes and material prizes, and three nonmaterial motivators, promotion, participation in training (upgrading qualifications) and vacation. Two premises justify choosing such a research subject. The first reason concerns the common specificity of this type of organization that is relatively closed, unified, with a high level of hierarchization and formalization. The second one relates to differences in organizational cultures and systems to motivate subordinates. Practical implications-Research results provide the basis for identifying a change in value systems (subsequent studies) in total institutions and for assessing motivational preferences in the examined organizations. Social implications-The examined uniformed services constitute an essential element of the social structure, which along with the 1989 political transformation transformed from closed and resistant to open and socialized institutions subject to similar laws that apply in other organizations. Also, the values and expectations of people serving in them changed radically. Service became a profession, and purely autotelic motivations turned into materialistic ones. This change provides grounds for conducting research in this area. Theory and practice of command

The emigration of the Poles to Chile is a subject of research which, despite the passage of more than two centuries since the first Poles appeared in this part of the world, still raises many questions and is a source of myths. Both the scale of emigration – as it turns out – and the fate of the Poles in Chile are still a fascinating subject for sociologists, ethnographers, and cultural anthropologists. The historical context of research on Polish emigrants in this country also inclines to look at emigration from an economic perspective. That is justified by the activity of the most famous figure – Ignacy Domeyko, who has become a national hero and a symbol of Chile’s economic development. The article aims to present the genesis and scale of Polish emigration to Chile in a retrospective and contemporary perspective and a description of Ignacy Domeyko’s contribution to this country. The article attempts to answer the question about the reasons for the Poles’ emigration to Chile, its scale over the years, and the Poles’ fate in exile.

Objectives. The cognitive purpose of the article is to describe the stereotype of the Afri-cans in the profiles of stereotypical perception of the Poles, created under the influence of the media and the low level of cultural competence of the Poles, as well as to identify the Poles' attitudes towards the Africans and social problems arising in mutual relations. Background. The image of Africa and its inhabitants in the social perception of Poles is an issue still under-studied and burdened with deficit empirical knowledge. He is burdened with stereotypes created over many years by building a distorted image of Africa through the media and pop culture. An important determinant of the subjective image of the inhabitants of Africa in the perception of Poles is also their lack of cultural competence , which is based on the small population of Africans in Poland and limited contacts with them, as well as the lack of tendency of Poles to expand their knowledge about other nations. Methodology. The article is based mainly on qualitative research-on the analysis of secondary data (desk research) coming from research reports, which are supplemented by the results of quantitative research on the perception of refugees and immigrants in the opinion of the young generation of the Poles. The essence of the article is an attempt to answer the question: what is the image of Africans and Africa in Poland and to what extent is it changing? Conclusions. However, the stigmas of the past seem to be disappearing, and Polish society is also opening up to the world in terms of culture. thanks to this, changes in the perception of Poles are visible not only towards Africans but also to other nations. The increase in the population of "foreign" nationalities, including those from Africa, as well as the spatial mobility of Poles observed in Poland mean that the image of Africans is changing. It is still a slow process, but it shows change-moving away from misperception and stereotypes in favor of knowledge and openness.

Feminization of terror is a significant issue in the light of its etiology, scale, and effects. Moreover, it is a social problem that arose in psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, and politics. This article aims to analyze only a part of this complicated matter. The article has put an emphasis on the motives that drive women to take up such a risky and dangerous practice, as well as on the specifics of their activities in four organizations: the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia, Chechen Kavkazskiy Emirat, and groups associated with Islam.

The cultural security of Poland is a multifaceted state inscribed in widely understood national security and security of social unit. It is also a state, which should be considered from material and non-material perspective based on components of culture, shaping cultural peculiarities of nation and guiding its development directions. The analysis of factors related to the cultural security of Poland allows to perceive this state not only from the perspective of historically shaped, relatively constant components of culture, but also from the perspective of threats occurring in endogenous and exogenous environment. It is primarily concerned with cultural change, particularly modifying value systems, and national identity of Poles, which is extremely difficult and unmeasurable subject of research.

The achieved status of coexistence has not been accepted by all states. Russia cannot accept the fact that it has sustained substantial losses, especially in the global dimension, after the collapse of the USSR. Vladimir Putin’s Team has been striving to rebuild the power of their country. Russian society, which is accustomed to sacrifices for its homeland, is actively involved in the activities undertaken. Much effort is put into the development of the armaments sector. The structures, command and mobilization condition of the Armed Forces are improved. The Russian Armed Forces is modernized and the percentage of modern equipment is constantly increasing. The Armed Forces of the RF are preparing for any possible armed conflict. Various types of exercise are being performed and frequently maneuvers are carried out in close proximity to the borders of NATO states. However, it must be hoped that Russia's leadership will remain in the sphere of dreams, and the analysis of question marks emerging in the east should be a kind of basis for conclusions.

The key focus of the article is the conflict over
the Falkland Islands – a corner of the world
that has been disputed for centuries due to its
unique geographical location and rich natural

the source of antagonism between Argentina

already, the second element is relatively new;
the most relevant discoveries were made only in
the late 20th century. Experiences gained from
the short, but very costly conflict of 1982 show
that the Falklands crisis has not been completely
resolved, and the threat of outbreak of a new
conflict over the Islands in the future is real.

The authors describe the issue of moral panic in the context of the armed conflict in Ukraine and the way it is reflected in the behavior, opinions, fears, approaches and beliefs of the respondents. The notion is described through the perspective of the moral panic features, enumerated by Erich Goode and Nachman Ben-Yehuda, such as concerns, disproportionality and volatility. Such approach allows to analyze the cumulated data on people's reaction in the face of the potential threat they perceive as highly probable. The authors ask what implications moral panic brings for the safety of the country neighboring the area of the conflict.

The activity of women in terrorism has been observed in various organizations around the world. The membership of women in terrorist groups is strictly associated with a plan of action of organizations and potential targets. A structure of a group is also of significant importance. The psychological background of terrorism with women's participation is particularly linked with functions performed by women terrorists in accordance with their personal predispositions and requirements of a terrorist group. The article presents the women's engagement in terrorism. Functions fulfilled by the women within terrorist organizations are also discussed. The special attention is drawn to leadership positions associated with the logistics and the issue of suicide bombing with women's participation.

History shows that since the seventeenth century Polish-Turkish relations have been
correct, and even of friendly nature. Despite such huge cultural differences and geographical distance between the two countries, both in the past and at present the two nations have lived in harmony and their citizens treat one another in a relatively positive way. Both the cultural traits and stereotypes are positive and have no bearing on the emergence of conflicts between cultures. Given the rather sparse population of the Turks in Poland and their willingness to establish contacts with the Poles, it can be
concluded that the conflict of cultures between these nationalities is not likely, and minor antagonisms are natural and they occur wherever there are contacts between foreign and different nations. What is the future for both countries and what will future Polish-Turkish relations be like? Probably peaceful coexistence cannot last much longer due to the fact that more and more fear is seen among the Poles, encouraged by the media discourse about the expansion of Islam and the strengthening of the Islamic State. Unfortunately, in Poland, it is still one of top issues, especially in the context of the political battle concerning the acceptance of migrants from developing countries.

The XXI century is described as the century of globalization and multiculturalism. Mass migrations, integration processes occurring in the contemporary world, changes, and transformations of political system make the world a global village. Such a situation creates possibilities of getting to know other cultures by the means of diffusion of cultures.
This article touches upon development of the theory of multiculturalism, changes in its interpreting under the influence of the factors which participate in its creation. Multiculturalism is undoubtedly a domain of democracy with its tolerance, at least theoretically, to all diversities. Multiculturalism, according to the contemporary approach to this topic, has become a domain of the modern societies which derive its modernity from the achievements of other cultures. Such a situation is possible provided that diffusion of cultures takes place. Open borders can additionally favour the occurrence of this phenomenon.

Three decades of common experience of the Poles and the Vietnamese in Poland invites reflection on chances of their cultural assimilation and over the coming years social inclusion as well. Indeed, their shared history on Polish soil goes back to the 1950s, however, a new stage in the mutual relationships was the result of the expansion of Vietnamese immigrants on Poland's territory after 1989 followed by the collapse of the Eastern Bloc. Today, on the grounds of retrospective analyzes, a number of questions arise relating to the reasons for Vietnamese people's immigration to Poland as well as concerning their existence in the foreign and culturally homogeneous environment. The scale of immigration, the cultural distinctiveness of the Vietnamese, the specificity of their social structure and existential problems fully justify the importance of undertaking research on this very interesting nationality. Moreover, they direct attention to the phenomenon encumbered with a social paradox. This phenomenon refers to the Vietnamese's ability to adapt at both social and economic levels, whereas the paradox concerns the lack of links between the social sphere (underpinned by relatively positive relations with the Poles) and the economic one (relating to economic activity and entrepreneurship) and the inclination to cultural assimilation.

This article was developed due to the use of mainly qualitative research, particularly on the basis of the analysis of sources and desk
research, as well as on the results of own studies on the change of value systems among the young generation of the Arabs. The entire article was adhered to the thesis on the inevitability of the civilization conflict that we are witnessing in the reality of the migration crisis, and also in the age of ‘dying’ Western civilization.

This article aims to analyse social and cultural factors of the economic crisis in Greece. For the purposes of assessing their impact on the crisis, there were used statistical data describing the Greek society before and during the crisis, as well as results of surveys and three categorised interviews conducted in 2013 among Polish economic migrants living in Athens. The first part of this paper provides the analysis of selected macroeconomic categories showing the scale of the crisis and their influence on shaping the social capital in Greece particularly with regard to the demography, the social structure and the labour market. The second part presents the Greeks’ cultural characteristics contained in classical typologies of cultures and their impact on the crisis based on the perception of the Poles living in Athens.

w stosunku do Polaków, wynikająca z asymilacji kulturowej w polskim środowisku kulturowym, a także wizerunek Arabów w percepcji Polaków dzięki kontaktom kultur.

”The clash of cultures” - a slogan, brought to life in the late 20th century by S. Huntington, has become a today's reality. It revealed to the world the open borders of realism focused on the phenomenon of multiculturalism, diffusion of cultures and the omnipresent clash of modernity and tradition. Massive expansion of foreign cultures into the European continent seems to confirm this theory, however, a question must be asked whether this expansion is symptomatic of the clash and confrontation of cultures, or whether a meeting of different cultures in one - usually unfamiliar to one of them - cultural environment must entail only negative consequences. Are cultural modifications by any chance a blessing, a specific supplement to the population deficit and the need inscribed in the natural civilization cycles? Though bold as to contemporary realities, however well founded seems to be the thesis that the expansion of foreign cultures, including Muslims and the Arabs to Europe, has become a kind of an alternative that is achievable only under the condition of mutual acceptance, tolerance, respect, understanding and knowledge of cultural peculiarities of the 'both worlds'. This article, based on empirical research conducted in the course of over 10 years within the student community at Wroclaw and Arab universities, is dedicated to understanding of differences between Polish and Arabic cultures and presenting similarities of the two cultures.

Jedną z pierwotnych trudności, wytyczających granice możliwości poznawczych badań nad kryzysami, jest kwestia zakwalifikowania zjawisk wykraczających poza uznawaną społecznie „normalność” - do kryzysów. Wynika to z faktu, że owa „normalność” ma charakter relatywny i naznaczona jest mispercepcją rzeczywistości, która wynika z braku uniwersalnych kryteriów oceny środowiska bezpieczeństwa.

The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented development in terms of its scale and scope and controversy over its sources and future worldwide impact. The case of education confirms it. 1.3 billion pupils and students have been deprived  of  or their access to schools was limited. Thus, irreversible educational backlogs marked 1 billion of students worldwide. Pandemic also changed the approach to "crisis" education carried out during natural disasters and emergencies such as the coronavirus pandemic by all educational institutions, including military ones. The objective of this chapter is to examine the specifics of distance learning at military universities during the pandemic. Against this backdrop, the efficiency of teaching based on e-learning platforms used at the Military University of Land Forces (AWL) in Wroclaw is evaluated. The thrust of the argument that this chapter advances is that the pandemic forced higher education institutions, including the military once, to change their approach to distance learning. This resulted in  the emergence of "crises-military e-learning (cmel)."
