—Organizations are constantly searching for strategic methods in order to stay competitive. This paper examines the relationship between organizations' resource availability and absorptive capacity as well as type of alliances with organizational performance. A total of 2,500 Malaysian manufacturers were surveyed resulting in 335 of usable responses were then analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The result establishes that Malaysian manufacturers need to increase their efforts in increasing internal resources that are the source of competitive advantage in order to achieve superior manufacturing performance.

Strategic alliances, which are cooperative strategies in which firms combine some of their resources to create competitive advantages, are the primary form of cooperative strategies. Research on strategic alliance in the past few decades has suggested that strategic alliance can enhance competitiveness. Whatever forms joint venture, equity
based or no equity based, strategic alliance assist in ensuring the economic value addition, multidimensional inter-firm network, and inter-organizational coordination. In this paper we have tried to identify how strategic alliances enhane competitiveness and some factors which foster strategic alliances. Finally, we have identified some research
gap that will help in conducting future research regarding strategic alliance issues.
