Proceratium melinum (Roger, 1860) is a hypogaeic ant species that occurs in southern Europe. Very little is known about the ecology and the distribution of this ant. In Romania there have been only two previous records from almost a century ago. We present a new record of this species and some insights regarding its ecology.

The data was compiled from published literature, unpublished data from museum collections and personal collectiongs. Altogether  70 species were recorded.  Tapinoma subboreale Seifert, 2012 is new for the ant  fauna of Sibiu. Distribution maps are given for all species

The pharaoh ant, Monomorium pharaonis (L.), is a well-known adventive and invasive indoor pest species. Although this species is very common in temperate Europe, it has been previously recorded in Romania only in Bucharest. We present new
records of this species from four additional sites in Romania: Cluj-Napoca, Miercurea Ciuc, Oradea, and Sibiu. This species poses potential public health risks in Romania.

Aphaenogaster subterranea (Latreille, 1798) is a widely distributed Mediterranean species, whose northern part of the range extends to the south of Central Europe. From Romania it’s known only from the Southern part. We present the first records of this species from Transylvania and Dobrogea. The current distribution and habitat preference of the species are given also

Faunistic investigation of the Rodna Mountains National Park and its surroundings (NW Romania) yielded records for 16 ant species. Based upon these results the number of known species reaches 22 in this region. Nine species are new for this region: Camponotus ligniperdus, Formica lemani, Formica clara, Formica sanguinea, Leptothorax acervorum, Myrmica lobicornis, Myrmica rubra, Myrmica ruginodis and Polyergus rufescens. Three main
habitat types were studied: meadows, spruce forests and grasslands. The highest number of species was recorded in grasslands. The majority of the species are common in Romania. Data regarding the species’ biology and ecology are given

In the present paper the author offers new data to the knowledge of the ant-fauna of the Upper Arieş river basin. Altogether 23 species were identified during this study. Upon these results the number of known species reaches 39 in this region. The majority of species are common in Romania, with the exception of Myrmica hellenica Finzi, 1926, which is reported for the third time for Romania.

Comparative analysis of ant communities from two different habitats was carried out in the vicinity of Sibiu city. Ants were collected with pitfall traps and by free hand collections in a grassland at Cisnădioara and in the Dumbrava Nature Park Forest during 2007. Additional free hand sampling was carried out in three other grasslands. Altogether 19 species were identified, among them Tetramorium ferox Ruzsky, 1903 a new species for the fauna of Sibiu County. The grassland community was the richest asexpected. The ant communities of the two habitats clearly differ from each other based on multivariate analysis.
