The results of the investigation of archeoentomological materials from
Wrzeœnica (NW Poland) are presented. 209 specimens belonging to Scarabaeoidea (Coleoptera) were noted: 202 of Oryctes nasicornis, 5 – Dorcus parallelipipedus, 1 – Oxythyrea funesta and 1 – Aphodius sp. The role of the archeoentomological materials in process of reconstructing the environment conditions in ancient periods is discussed.

Laboulbeniales are obligate ectoparasitic ascomycetes occurring on Arthropoda, mostly insects. Since the 1950s almost no research on Laboulbeniales has been done in the Netherlands. This study presents a preliminary list of Laboulbeniales found on insects collected in De Kaaistoep. Thirteen species of Laboulbeniales were found on fourteen different insect hosts, nine of which are new to the Netherlands. One dipteran host is new to the entomofauna of the Netherlands.

This paper provides a comprehensive catalogue of the New Zealand members of the family Zopheridae Solier (Coleoptera: Tenebrionoidea) in an effort to stabilize the nomenclature preceding extensive revisionary taxonomy within the group. A checklist of the 17 New Zealand zopherid genera and an account for each of the 189 species (by current combination) is provided. Type material for nearly all species was examined, and type specimens are designated herein (90 confirmed holotypes, 3 confirmed paratypes, 102 lectotypes, 280 paralectotypes). Images of all primary type specimens and labels examined are provided. Pycnomerus sulcatissimus Sharp, 1886 is a junior synonym and secondary homonym of Pycnomerus sulcatissimus (Reitter, 1880). One replacement name is proposed, Chorasus buckleyi new name, for Chorasus subcaecus (Broun), and 23 new combinations are given.

This review considers factors affecting the flight capacity of carabid beetles and the implications of flight for carabids. Studies from the Dutch polders in particular show that young populations of carabids consist predominantly of macropterous species and macropterous individuals of wing-dimorphic species. Also populations of wing-dimorphic carabid species at the periphery of their geographical range contain high proportions of macropterous individuals. However, studies from Baltic archipelagos show that older populations of even highly isolated island habitats contain considerable proportions of brachypterous species and individuals. This suggests that macroptery is primarily an adaptation for dispersal and that there exists a mechanism for subsequently reducing the ratio of macropterous to brachypterous species under stable conditions, due to the competitive advantage
of brachyptery. Populations in isolated habitats, such as islands and mountains, have high proportions of brachypterous species. Many macropterous species do not possess functional flight muscles. Species of unstable habitats, such as tree canopies and wet habitats, are mostly macropterous. Brachypterous species tend to disappear from disturbed habitats. There is uncertainty regarding the extent to which carabid dispersal is directed and how much passive. Both Den Boer and Lindroth recognized that mostly macropterous individuals of macropterous and wing-dimorphic species disperse and found new populations, after which brachyptery tends to rapidly appear and proliferate in the newly founded population. It is most likely that the allele for brachyptery would
arrive via the dispersal of gravid females which had mated with brachypterous males prior to emigration. Whilst many studies consider wing morphology traits of carabid beetles to be species-specific and permanent, a number of studies have shown that the oogenesis flight syndrome, whereby females undertake migration and subsequently lose their flight muscles by histolysis before eventually regenerating them after reproducing, has been reported for a growing number of carabid species. Wing morphology of carabid beetles clearly offers strong potential for the study of population dynamics. This field of study flourished during the 1940’s to the late 1980’s. Whilst a considerable amount of valuable research has been performed and published, the topic clearly holds considerable potential for future study.

The western Palaearctic species of the Pterostichus nigrita species complex are revised. Four species, P. nigrita (Paykull), P. rhaeticus Heer, P. fuscicornis (Reiche & Saulcy) and P. carri sp. n. (from the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco) are recognised, as well as P. nigrita pontonigrita subsp. n. (from Anatolia). P. pseudorhaeticus Solodovnikov is placed as a synonym of P. rhaeticus. All are recognised by the form of the inflated endophallus. P. nigrita nigrita is widely distributed in Europe apart from the Iberian Peninsula, and across Siberia to the Primorye and Kamchatka. It also occurs in the mountains of Kyrgistan, Kazakhstan
and Uzbekistan. P. n. pontonigrita is known only from Anatolia. P. rhaeticus is known from northern and central Europe and extends over Siberia and northern Kazakhstan to the Amur region. P. fuscicornis is known from northern Israel, Syria,
Lebanon, extreme eastern Anatolia, the Transcaucasus and Iran as well as the eastern Tian Shan in Sinkiang, China. P. carri is widely distributed in the Iberian Peninsula, and also occurs in Morocco. Variation in the chaetotaxy of the endophallus is
discussed and damage to the bursa copulatrix of females caused the by endophallic chaetae is noted. Karyotypes, with localisation of rDNA by FISH hybridisation, are given for P. nigrita, P. rhaeticus and P. carri. The NOR-bearing autosome of P.
carri is clearly different from those of P. nigrita and P. rhaeticus, but all three species may have blocks of rDNA included in the heterochromatin of the Bchromosomes. The chromosomes of P. fuscicornis and P. nigrita pontonigrita are unknown.

Saproxylic beetles are a functional group of Coleoptera that depend on wood decay and therefore play an important role in decomposition processes and thus for recycling nutrients in natural ecosystems. There is the European Red List of Saproxylic Beetles published by International Union for Conservation of Nature. This paper gives an overview of the saproxylic beetle species found in Latvia and included in the European Red list. The aim of this work was to analyse the composition and conservation status of these species, as well as to provide suggestions for updating list of specially protected species.

ABSTRACT: In the present paper a new species of Calodema Gory & Laporte 1838 from Arfak mountains of West New Guinea is described as new: Calodema annae sp. nov. The adult female’s genitalia of Calodema genus are depicted for the first time. KEY WORDS: West New Guinea, Arfak, Calodema, annae, new species Calodema is a rare, beautiful and highly collected genus. The species usually show metallic and bright colours. Many species were described in recent years (Barker, 1993; Neef de Sainval, 1998; Nylander, 2008). The use of Calodema gender seems to be feminine, there are no proofs of neutral gender (Nylander, 2008) as suggested by Gardner, 1986 and '89.

Necrobia rufipes is a cosmopolitan insect pest that attacks food products of vegetable and animal origin. The occurrence of biological agents in industrialized pet animal foods causes physical and chemical damage as well as changes in nutritional value, odor and flavor. Insects can also enhance the incidence of microorganisms and their toxins, which are one of the causes of pet animal illnesses. Individuals of N. rufipes were observed infesting dog food in the Pet Shop section
of a supermarket in Campina Grande (PB). A sealed dog food bag was purchased and transported to the laboratory for sorting of infested material and identification of the specimens. Nine hundred and
thirty-two larvae of different instars, 6 pre-pupae, 19 pupae and 514 adults of N. rufipes were identified. The success of infestation is related to the humidity level inside the bag and high concentration of crude protein in dog food. This is the first record of the presence of N. rufipes in industrialized dog food in Paraíba State and Northeast Brazil

In the case of many forensically important insects an interval preceding appearance of an insect stage on a corpse (called the pre-appearance interval or PAI) is strongly temperature-dependent. Accordingly, it was proposed to estimate PAI from temperature by using temperature models for PAI of particular insect species and temperature data specific for a given case. The quality of temperature models for PAI depends on the protocols for PAI field studies. In this article we analyze effects of sampling frequency and techniques, temperature data, as well as the size of a sample on the quality of PAI models. Models were created by using data from a largely replicated PAI field study, and their performance in estimation was tested with external body of PAI data. It was found that low frequency of insect sampling distinctly deteriorated temperature models for PAI. The effect of sampling techniques was clearly smaller. Temperature data from local weather station gave models of poor quality, however their retrospective correction clearly improved the models. Most importantly, current results demonstrate that sample size in PAI field studies may be substantially reduced, with no model deterioration. Samples consisting of 11–14 carcasses gave models of high quality, as long as the whole range of relevant temperatures was studied. Moreover, it was found that carcasses exposed in forests and carcasses exposed in early spring are particularly important, as they ensure that PAI data is collected at low temperatures. A preliminary best practice model for PAI field studies is given.

The Andes represent one of the most important eco-regions of the world, fostering an enormous number of taxa associated with different altitudinal gradients. In the past two decades, there has been an increase in the description of different groups of insects, as in the case of the Lucanidae whose number of described species significantly rose in countries such as Peru and Bolivia. Aegognathus, a genus described originally from Peru, gained four new species during the last decade. Since then, the genus has not received proper taxonomic treatment, lacking updated information such as the actual distribution of some species, genitalic descriptions, female descriptions and identi- fication keys. This paper aims to offer new taxonomic knowledge for the Andean species of Aegognathus, with a redescription of the type species, A. waterhousei Leuthner, the description of two new species and an identification key for the Andean taxa, as well as, the discussion of some possible implications in future conservation studies related to the distribution data of the studied taxa

Coleoptera were collected from the Gosforth Park Nature Reserve in 2008, and to a lesser extent in 2009, using pitfall traps, an aerial interception trap, beating and sweeping of vegetation and by hand searching. A total of 221 species was recorded, including eighteen regionally notable, nine nationally notable and six new to Northumberland. Pitfall traps caught 2,577 Carabidae from thirty-nine species. Most were found in all trapping sites, except those typical of wetter habitats which were only caught near the lake. The results are compared with other records from the area and their significance is discussed.

Bibliographies are lists which convey idenfication information of different publications like books,
papers and articles on specific subjects in a certain order. They are prepared with the intention to provide
those who conduct studies in a certain field with the related source material in its entirety. They make it
possible to quickly review previous work on the subject being studied. They also provide an opportunity to
make more realistic, effective and less time consuming plans in reaching the target.
The first comprehensive bibliography on entomology and agricultural zoology in Turkey was
prepared by Prof. Dr. Feyzi Önder, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Karsavuran, Dr. E. Pervin Önder, Dr. Aynur Önuçar and
Dr. Ertaç Tutkun within the study framework of Turkish Entomology Association. It was printed in 1982 by the
General Directorate of Plant Protection and Quarantine under the name of “Bibliography of Entomology
and Agricultural Zoology of Turkey (Fauna, Pest Control, Pests of Plants, Methods) (1595-1978)”. The
second bibliography in this field was prepared by Prof. Dr. Feyzi Önder, Prof. Dr. Yusuf Karsavuran, Dr. E.
Pervin Önder, Dr. Ertaç Tutkun and Prof. Dr. Serdar Tezcan and was published by TURDOK, Tübitak-
Turkish Scientific and Technical Documentation Center in 1986 under the name of “Bibliography of
Entomology and Agricultural Zoology of Turkey (1979-1983)”. Bibliographical information of 4416
publications are available in the first of these bibliographies and there are 1361 of them in the second
bibliography. Bibliographical information of a total of 5777 publications are classified by topics and can be
found in these two volumes.
In the 30 years since 1983 there are numerous new research institutes and universities opened in
Turkey. As a consequence, new researchers were bred and have conducted and finished projects in the
fields of entomology and agricultural zoology. Additionally, technical developments in printing techniques
resulted with many new journals and periodicals. And, also, the number and frequency of scientific meetings
increased. All these have played a role in the considerably increased number of publications. Advancements
in the areas of communication and information technologies had marked influence on, especially, the second
half of the last 30-year period. They effected the production speed of information as well as the speed of
reaching this information. While some of the produced information was instantaneously attainable, some was
harder to be reached due to the huge amount of information output.
In the preparation phase of the book called “650 Entomologists, Acarologists and Nematologists from
Turkey with Their Brief Life Histories” written by Prof. Dr. Serdar Tezcan and Dr. Füsun Tezcan which was
published by the Entomological Society of Turkey, scientists who conducted studies in these topics were
contacted. Along with their biographical information, information concerning their publications as of
December 31, 2011 was also tried to be gathered.
Within the scope of the studies which lasted approximately seven months, authors were requested to
send in their work from their publication lists which were in line with the concept of this publication. Those
which were present in previous bibliographies were sorted out and the remaining which belonged to the 28-
year period between 1984-2011 were compiled. They were standardized to the best that it could and have
been listed alphabetically by the author last names. Those publications which belonged to a period before
1984 but not found in previous bibliographies were also included in this compilation. It should be noted that

this study which features 10823 publications does not contain all literature published between 1984-2011.
Some works of our colleagues could not be included in this study because they did not tend to share their
publication lists despite they were accessed. Furthermore, the publications which belonged to foreign
researchers could only be included if they were co-produced with a local colleague. Unfortunately, their other
studies could not be included. It should also be noted that, differing from previous ones, the entries in this
book are not classified according to their topics.
The contents of this study is subject to become out of date quickly due to the rapid output rate of
information today. For this reason, this book has been printed in a limited number and has been distributed
to libraries and documentation centers. In order to facilitate and spread the utilization of the book, an e-book
format of it is posted in the electronic library in the website of the Entomological Society of Turkey
(http://www.entomoloji.org.tr/). This will make it available free of charge for those local and foreign
people who wish to make use of it. The e-book can be scanned or bibliographical information can be
extracted by writing either the author of the publication, title or name of the journal after clicking on the
related file.
The pdf files of the two volumes of Bibliography of Entomology and Agricultural Zoology of
Turkey, within the scope of a graduation thesis written in 2013 in the Department of Plant Protection of Ege
University, Faculty of Agriculture, has been posted in the abovementioned website with the intention to
facilitate the scanning of publications prior to 1984. We would like to point out that this will enable the user to
make use of the old publications by using the same method.
It is technologically easy to access information today; however, it may be harder to find it in a short
period of time due to the increased speed of output of information. We are wishing that this bibliographical
reference we have prepared will further contribute to the production of new knowledge today. We are
thinking that the target audience who would make use of this reference book is comprised of researchers in
the fields of biology, agriculture, forestry, veterinary, medicine, environmental sciences and standing on the
top of the list are our young colleagues who will study in the fields of entomology, acarology and nematology.
We would like to extend our gratitutes to the President of the Entomological Society of Turkey, Prof.
Dr. Enver Durmuşoğlu and to the members of the Board of Directors for their support by assuming the
printing of this study and posting its e-book form in their website which will make it possible to reach the

The present work was carried out to create taxonomic study to the members of order Coleoptera with forensic importance. Twenty nine species under twenty one genera and nine families were collected from decaying carcasses (Rabbits & Guinea pigs). Keys, diagnosis, synonyms, photographs and the forensic importance were given to clarify the status of each species. [Rabab F. Sawaby, Hayam EL Hamouly and Reham H. Abo-El Ela. Turkey constitutes an biogeographical bridge that connects Europe, Asia and Africa. Publications on its insect fauna began almost 180 years ago. To date, no studies have summarized the data in the massive body of publications compiled on its insect diversity. The current research addressed that situation by throroughly analyzing published notes, catalogues, databases and systematic revisions and other work on the insect fauna of Turkey. This study reports that the insect fauna of Turkey as of end-2019 is composed of 33820 known species and subspecies in 562 families and 25 orders. The number of species and subspecies of the dominant orders and their percentages are given in descending order, as follows: Coleoptera (11910 / 35.22%), Hymenoptera (6641 / 19.64%), Lepidoptera (5580 / 16.50%), Diptera (3742 / 11.06%), Hemiptera (3424 / 10.13%) and Orthoptera (734 / 2.17%). For these six orders, the total number of species and subspecies is 32031, which is 94.71% of the total. The extraordinary biogeographic diversity of Turkey, which includes Mediterranean, Irano-Anatolian and Caucasian biodiversity hotspots, is reflected in the chorotype analyses which showed that Mediterranean, European and Asiatic chorotypes are prominent. Moreover, there is a high proportion of endemic species and subspecies (3785 / 11.20% of total), with the numbers and percentages varying widely across the taxa. Furthermore, the number of reported endemics has increased by 49% since 2008. The data compiled in this study highlights the urgent need for protection of the extraordinarily diverse insect fauna of Turkey and their habitats.

A checklist of the soil-dwelling microphthalmic and anophthalmic weevils of the world is presented.  A total of 485 species in 85 genera are recognised, distributed over eight subfamilies and 26 tribes. The subfamilies are arranged in the currently accepted phylogenetic sequence, whereas the tribes, genera and species are listed in alphabetical order. For each species, the type locality and the geographical distribution by country is provided. Particularly diversified taxa are Entiminae: Otiorhynchini (125 species), Brachycerinae: Raymondionymini (90 species), Cossoninae: Dryotribini (59 species), Cryptorhynchinae: Torneumatini (58 species) and Molytinae: Lymantini (39 species). The biogeographic region with the highest diversity of soil-dwelling weevils is the Palearctic, especially the circum-Mediterranean area, mostly because of the exploration effort that it has received, followed by the Ethiopian and Neotropical regions.

A list of some interesting beetles in the “Lama Forest” in the Romagna slope of the Casentine Forests, Mt. Falterona and Campigna National Park is provided. Five species are recorded for the first time from the National Park; moreover six species were until now known only in the Tuscany part of the Park. The presence of the alien ladybird Harmonia axiridis (Pallas, 1773) is discussed in detail. Other species are important from the viewpoint of conservation: Rhysodes sulcatus (Fabricius, 1787), Ceruchus chrysomelinus (Hochenwarth, 1785), Platycerus caraboides (Linnaeus, 1758), Gnorimus variabilis (Linnaeus, 1758), Gnorimus nobilis nobilis (Linnaeus, 1758). Treptoplatypus oxyurus (Doufour, 1843) and Mycetina cruciata (Schaller, 1783) are recorded for the first time in Emilia-Romagna Region.

The article is the review of the fauna and distribution of the species of genus Omophron Latr. (Coleoptera: Carabidae) found in the Palearctic. It presents the list of the species, in which every species of the genus Omophron Latr. found in the Palearctic is given a general description, the information on the distribution of the species is provided, the data concerning
the material processed and the most significant bibliography sources are indicated. In total there are 19 species indicated for the Palearctic in the article. Three species (O. brettinghamae
Pasc., O. interruptum Chaud., O. testudo Andr.) are indicated for the Palearctic for the first time.

In the year of 2008, the Project Entomofauna of Turkey was begun privately. The main aim was to compile the hitherto recorded taxa of pterygot insects in Turkey. For this purpose, 24 pterygot orders in Turkey, their family, genus and species group taxa have been studying by the authors. Results of the fields studies have also been evaluating to some degree. Six reports of the temporary results were published so far. In these reports, not only the previously published information by other native or foreign authors were compiled, updated taxonomical or nomenclatural cases of the taxa, but also numerous new records to the provincial or country fauna were added. Unfortunately, there is no similar studying program, having such a perspective to the fauna of Turkey currently. Total number of the pterygot insect species of Turkey was reported by the authors on 8 January 2011 as 17629. Whereas, the current number reaches to 19492. Van, from the faunistical standpoint, is one of the little studied provinces of Turkey. Several years ago, the total pterygot fauna of this province was less than thousand species. Today, exact number of the species reached to 2000 species; among them, several hundred records belong to the field studies of the present authors. Expected number of species is around 5000 in the province. In the present paper, only the synonymical list of the species is given alphabetically together with their families, under the studied orders. Totally 16 orders are illustrated here representatively from various places of Van Province. Planned further faunistical studies in the province, such as Artos Mountain, Catak, etc. will be published separately.

The discovery of some saproxylic beetle species in the park of
the Rocca Medici del Vascello (San Giovanni in Croce, Cremona province, Lombardy) is reported. Two of these species are
listed in the annexes of the Habitats Directive (92/43/CEE):
Lucanus cervus(Linnaeus, 1758) (Annex II) and Cerambyx
cerdo Linnaeus, 1758 (Annexes II & IV). Current knowledge
on the conservation status of these species for the lowlands
of Italy are important to ensure the correct management of
small wooded areas, also in places as parks, gardens and isolated groups of old trees.

This study is based upon material from subfamilies Aphodiinae and
Scarabaeinae of the family Scarabaeidae collected from different localities of Turkey between 1966 and 2013. The study resulted in recording for Turkish fauna of 20 species and subspecies from 14 genera of Aphodiinae and 36 species and subspecies from 12 genera of Scarabaeinae. In total, 56 species and subspecies belonging to 26 genera of the subfamilies Aphodiinae and Scarabaeinae are listed. Among them, Acanthobodilus immundus (CREUTZER, 1799), Aphodius fimetarius (LINNAEUS, 1758), Bodilus lugens (CREUTZER, 1799) and Colobopterus erraticus (LINNAEUS, 1758) from Aphodiinae and Gymnopleurus mopsus mopsus (PALLAS, 1781), Euoniticellus fulvus (GOEZE, 1777), Caccobius schreberi (LINNAEUS, 1767), Euonthophagus gibbosus (SCRIBA, 1790), Onthophagus (Palaeonthophagus) ruficapillus BRULLÉ, 1832 and Scarabaeus typhon (FISCHER VON WALDHEIM, 1823) from Scarabaeinae have been found the most abundant and widespread species. In addition, new localities have been found for some species and subspecies, which have already been reported from Turkey.

Se realizó un estudio de los elatéridos de Guerrero. Se registraron siete subfamilias, 12
tribus, 24 géneros y 62 especies. Las subfamilias más diversas fueron Agrypninae, Elaterinae y
Cardiophorinae. Los géneros con mayor riqueza fueron Conoderus, Glyphonyx, Chalcolepidius y Aptopus.
