Inferno's Amazing Friend

Firestar (aka Novastar[1]) is one of the members of Elita One's Autobot resistance and specialized in rescue missions. Practical and unprepossessing, she is nonetheless particularly useful during thefts of Decepticon Energon cubes, as her vehicle mode is capable of transporting large numbers of them.

She's very good at a large number of things, and in some universes she's kinda snobby about it, which makes her unpopular. Thankfully for Firestar, one of her many skills is appearing popular to others despite this.

Firestar is a close friend of Inferno and Chromia, and entrusted the safety of her protégée Flareup to the latter.

Four million years ago, Firestar tried to board the Ark, while it was being attacked, with the rest of Elita One's team. The plan failed, and she and the others appeared to be destroyed.

Firestar participated in a raid on one of Shockwave's energon supply stores, and fell under attack when the group was discovered thanks to Moonracer's carelessness. They managed to escape and the team returned to their hidden base with the stolen energon.

The Decepticons attacked again, however. Trying to capture Elita One, Rumble caused the Female Autobots' underground base to collapse, with most of them in it. They survived and managed to free themselves some time later. In search for their leader, they met up with a team of Earth-stationed Autobots who had come looking for their commander. Firestar was briefly reunited with her friend Inferno and together they helped fight off the Decepticons the Earth-stationed Autobots had gotten themselves in a fight with. She remained on Cybertron with the rest of Elita One's team when Optimus's team returned to Earth. The Search for Alpha Trion

Firestar, Moonracer, and Arcee were strolling around on Cybertron after a battle, when they were attacked from behind by a Decepticon. Only Arcee was quick enough to respond in time, blasting the attacker before her friends came to harm. She then chided her teammates, noting that "War seems to be too tough particularly for females" [sic]. Firestar noted with horror that this clearly meant that three beautiful women were in three times as much trouble. The Transformers: Arcee

Later, Firestar, Chromia, Moonracer, and Elita One celebrated their victory over an absolutely gargantuan Decepticon warrior. Well, Elita brooded, but the others celebrated. The Transformers: Elita One

Firestar was a member of an elite squad of five warriors under the command of the Quintessons. She and Moonracer were on guard duty for their masters when they discussed the Transformer-related events of the past two Earth years. Generation 1 #0

Generation One ceased publication before the story could conclude. The following would have taken place in unpublished issues.

Following a report from their Autobot sleeper agent, Arcee, that the awaited situation to commence their mission had come, Elita One used a space bridge to get to the Autobase on Cybertron. Firestar and the others waited patiently for her to signal that they could follow. Firestar was the last to step through the portal, thereby just missing out on Moonracer and Elita One taking out Gnaw. While Chromia was sent back to Quintessa with an unconscious Hot Rod, Firestar joined the other two into the Autobot facility, where they found Optimus Prime's badly damaged body in a repair chamber. On Caminus, the performing arts are venerated, which was good for Firestar, a skilled dancer, acrobat, and actor. Unfortunately the Way of Flame expects people to form an Amica Endura within ten megacycles or be cast out as "officially lonely", and Firestar's ego and need to undercut others meant she couldn't get a best friend. She ended up reciting the Oath of Constancy to her roommate Nautica, who was nothing like her but was also desperate to not be written off. They went on to be fractious "besties" and sorority members, trying to get on but not quite managing it, and Firestar viewed their relationship as waiting for Nautica to "catch up" to her and not ride coattails. Much like others, she called her friend "Naughty Nautica" for not trying to be an artist: not a nickname that Nautica appreciated. The Sensuous Frame The Frail Gaze While berating Nautica for her inability to dance (and her indifference to), Firestar got progressively angrier until a medical student named Velocity put out her head flame with a blast of water. Firestar stomped off, but the incident made friends of Nautica and Velocity. An Axe to Break the Ice

Looks like someone let The Fallen do their hair.

Firestar didn't forgive Nautica for being the one called up to search for Cybertron (or Windblade for doing the calling). Months later, she herself and many of the old sorority went out searching for that first group, and thanks to the personality ticks infecting their pilot they had to be saved by Thunderclash. He let them join the crew of the Vis Vitalis; three days after leaving Caminus, the crew made a stopover on the planet Marasma, where Firestar obtained a sample of Black Diamond that she used to alter the color of her head-flame. The Frail Gaze

After a year of travelling, Firestar became a prominent member of the crew as Thunderclash began to die. Eventually, the Lost Light arrived to also pay its respects. The Sensuous Frame Feeling selfconscious, Firestar lied that she'd saved Thunderclash and had been made First Officer. The Frail Gaze Nautica was left uneasy as her old bestie playfully undermined the former's vocation and her accomplishments. After an awkward conversation, the two segregated. The Sensuous Frame

When the personality ticks went on the take, a horrified Firestar saw her friend Skystriker killed in front of her. Only a not-dead-after-all Thunderclash allowed them to escape and, taking shelter with Nautica's allies, a panicked Firestar admitted to her "First Officer" fib; she helped Nightbeat identify what the creatures were when she noted all their victims had charisma but when the ticks broke in, she cowered in a fetal position rather than fight. After the crisis was sorted, she made it clear she was going back home to Caminus and couldn't understand why Nautica viewed this violent, scary horrorshow as "space adventures".

Before parting, she suggested they break up as they weren't that good a mix, she hadn't been that good a friend, and Nautica was better than her. Not willing to see her friend be pilloried for the Camien sin of "platonic severance", Nautica told her they were different but still friends. Later on, both for appearances and to let Velocity have better career opportunities than she would at home, Firestar convinced her to move to the Light to "help Nautica out". The Frail Gaze

At some point, Nautica was seen apparently communicating with Firestar via telecom at Swerve's. No Guns, No Swords, No Briefcases

Following the destruction of Caminus at the hands of Unicron, Last Stand Firestar was safely evacuated to Cybertron; when Unicron then attacked and destroyed the Transformer homeworld, Firestar and the other survivors were teleported to Earth, and landed in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. Road's End

Novastar was a commanding officer in Colonial Security, sharing a similar rank and authority with Hound. The two of them were part of First Senator Sentinel Prime's entourage as he conducted a tour of the Cybertronian colonies aboard the Titan, Lodestar. Nautica: Home When civil unrest became rampant back home, Sentinel Prime brought his crew back to Cybertron to deal with the situation. The Cracks Beneath Your Feet Part Four

At Sentinel Prime's decree, Novastar and Hound were integrated into command structure of domestic Security Operations. Chromia's command of Security was narrowed to Investigations, while Sentinel's operatives now oversaw Enforcement. The Change In Your Nature Part Three While Hound prepared for the heavy work, Novastar assembled an integrated recon and rapid response unit from volunteers of various backgrounds. She and Smokescreen would perform ground recon, Blades and Windblade on air recon, and Sureshot and Springer serving as a strike team for close- and long-range impact. All Fall Down

Novastar's unit entered the field to capture Quake, a former member of the Ascenticon Guard wanted for murder. They encountered a small caravan of Rise members and attempted to make arrests. Smokescreen's smoke allowed Novastar to lock down Quake with an electrified capture net, but the Rise lieutenant Sixshot exploded onto the scene. Tremors Sixshot's arrival almost allowed the Rise to escape, but the colossal Leviathan arrived and disabled Quake. The others fled, and Novastar accepted the victory of a single prisoner. At Sentinel Prime's instruction, Quake was paraded through the streets of Iacon. Ascenticon agitators in the crowd upset Novastar's vehicle, though, giving Quake a chance to escape. He was killed before he could be recaptured at the hands of Bumblebee, fulfilling a vendetta for his murdered mentee, Rubble. Prisoners

Moon-WindbladeNovastar.jpg

The domestic crisis reached its tipping point when Megatron and the Ascenticon senators stormed the Senate and overthrew the elected government. The Rise and the Ascenticons became one organization, the Decepticons, declaring themselves the new masters of Cybertron. Novastar coordinated with the free forces of Colonial Security, SecOps, and the Senate Guard to rescue the First Senator and other prisoners being held by Megatron. However, word came from Wheeljack that the Rise were attempting to claim the energon on the Winged Moon, prompting Novastar to leave the Senate to others and re-task her team for a space mission. Prime Sky Lynx brought Colonial Security to the Winged Moon, where they found the Rise trying to breach fortifications set up by dedicated engineers. As the conflict intensified, the engineers detonated the energon on the moon, leading both sides to cut their losses and depart. Moon

What remained of Colonial Security united behind Optimus Prime, the last remaining free senator opposing the Decepticon coup. They fled Iacon and made base in Crystal City under the Autobot banner. When the Enigma of Combination was reported in Termagax's possession, the Autobots flew out to the Sea of Rust to make sure it didn't fall into Decepticon hands. Novastar's unit acted as an advance team with the Great General Pyra Magna and her Companions, securing the site against a swarm of Insecticons. That was only the first wave, as soon the Decepticons arrived en masse as well. Sea of Rust II Novastar and the Companion's field leader Sunstreaker held the line, but eventually the Enigma was lost, falling into the Sea of Rust. Enigmatic

ADustOfCrystals AutobotsRetreat.jpg

When Crystal City came under siege, Novastar coordinated the defense of the city with other ranking officers. A Dust of Crystals A truce was negotiated at the siege, allowing Autobots and Decepticons to turn their attention towards the more existential threats to Cybertron. With Sureshot escorting a team to seek out Exarchon in the Sonic Canyons, Novastar's unit was joined by the sniper Javelin. Their mandate was to deal with the growing swarm of Insecticons. Upon locating the lair where Bombshell and his ilk were operating, they were to deliver a receiver carrying a data bomb packet into the Insecticlones' hive mind. Novastar left her fliers outside as a distraction and proceeded inside the immersant Titan's shell being used by the Insecticons. Radical Time The entire swarm was not diverted, however, and so Cromar and Javelin bought them time to reach the center of the lair. Novastar snagged Bombshell with the receiver, and the second unit back at Darkmount transmitted the data bomb through a captured Insecticlone. Their mission was successful, and the Insecticons were reprogrammed to feast off of the rust worms, two threats eliminating each other. End of Time

The chatty Novastar was one of Elita-1's resistance fighters, who excelled at slipping into Decepticon storage facilities. Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook When not fighting on the front lines, Novastar sought to master as many disciplines as she could. Some found her behaviour obnoxious, but her devotion to become the best of the best made her something of a legend among the younger Autobots. • Autobot Novastar (Deluxe Class, 2018)
  • TakaraTomy ID number: PP-35
  • TakaraTomy release date: October 27, 2018
  • Accessories: Blaster, Prime Armor/combiner hand, Prime Master gap filler/gun
  • Known designers: John Warden (Hasbro)
The sole new figure in the fourth and final wave of Power of the Primes Deluxe Class toys, "Autobot Novastar" (renamed for trademark reasons) is a retool of Power of the Primes Moonracer with a new head and weapon, transforming into a Cybertronian car.
She can also form a limb for any Combiner Wars-style combiner (or one of Legends Godbomber's legs). Like all other Power of the Primes Deluxe Class figures, she comes with a piece of Prime Armor (redecoed from that of Jazz) that can transform into a hand for a combiner. The Armor has a place for a Prime Master (and by extension, a Titan Master, Enigma of Combination, or Matrix core) to socket in once you remove the gap filler piece, which can then be held as a pistol.
Novastar's kibble results in a very large backpack, due to the fact at least 75% of her car mode folds up into it despite not being a shellformer. Surprisingly, even with the backpack she is fairly sturdy in robot mode, due to the fact it is mostly hollow.
As an undocumented feature, her gun can combine with Moonracer's gun to form a larger rifle that doesn't look too out of place in a combiner hand.
The side of Novastar's packaging depicts Elita-Infin1te, though Novastar herself is not visible. Later Siege material would also brand Novastar as part of Orthia.
This mold was also used to make Greenlight and Generations Selects Lancer, and was heavily retooled into Selects Tentakil and Scylla. Siege Chromia and Generations Selects Nightbird also reuse parts of the mold; specifically the wheels, thighs and hip ball joint sockets.

The Nuclear Ma'am
  • Back in the 1990s, early attempts by fans to identify the cast of the cartoon led to actress Morgan Lofting being incorrectly identified as the voice of Firestar. The identity of Firestar's actress has never come to light, meaning that numerous online databases, taking that old fandom guesswork as true, continue to list Lofting for the role. Obviously not remembering whether or not she played a one-episode bit part with barely more than half-a-dozen lines thirty-five years ago, Lofting has also attended several conventions under the pretense that she played Firestar (which isn't the only time such a thing has happened).
  • Firestar is depicted as a partformer in her Generation 1 cartoon appearance (at least in two of three transformation sequences shown in the episode). When transforming into vehicle mode, her lower legs detach from the knees and combine to form her truck bed, while the rest of her folds up into the cab and then reconnects at the end of the sequence. While it makes sense for characters like Omega Supreme to do this in the cartoon, since he turns into three individual alternate modes, Firestar is an animation-only character with no toy or toy transformation sequence to have to abide by, so the animators could have done anything they wanted—yet, here she is. Amusingly, Omega is likewise depicted in some scenes of the cartoon not partforming, especially when going from rocket mode to robot mode… so make of that what you will.
  • The toy that was released as Flareup in the BotCon 2005 exclusive souvenir set with Ratchet was originally intended to be Firestar. However, Hasbro was unable to secure the trademark to her name, so she became a new character protégée. According to Ben Yee, Firestar was planned to have died prior to the events of "Descent into Evil" to explain the absence. However, this was intentionally omitted from the final version of the convention comic. Consequently, her final fate in this continuity is unknown.[2]
