is the first edition of the website-based ranking of all 19 concession holders (companies entitled to explore shale gas reserves in Poland, as listed by the Ministry of Environment). The publication has been rese-arched and compiled by Tischner European University Centre for Energy Studies project team (www.teuces.eu). The analysis is based on structural and qualitative website-content overview. In the process, special attention has been given to specific, stakeholder-relevant criteria, following numerous TEUCES-initiated interviews with representatives of local government in regions where shale-gas sector's investor activity has been most promi-nent to date (the Lublin and Pomeranian voivodeships). Poland’s energy security depends on coal and this will not change in the nearest future (at least until 2030). However, because of technological development, growing popularity of other energy carriers and international factors (incl. prices, EU’s climate and energy policy), coal’s significance will diminish. This makes it even more pertinent to reform the uncompetitive coal industry in Poland whose situation is exacerbating. Especially that, despite many attempts made after 1989, the coal industry in Poland has never been fully restructured.
