The Títulos primordiales (" Primordial Titles ") are land documents created by the Indians of New Spain in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This paper will analyze the Nahuatl version of the Títulos primordiales of five villages: Acapulco, Teteltzinco, Milpalta, Cuixinco and Atlauhtla, all located in the Southeast area of the Valley of Mexico. First, the historical context of the creation of the Títulos primordiales will be described from the perspective of " two foundations, " one in Prehispanic Times and another in the Colonial. Then, the analysis of the texts will be conducted to find how the village's " foundation " is described in relation to Christianity and its God, but also how it is conceptualized on the basis of Prehispanic Indigenous way of thinking. The paper will finish with an examination of some of the other aspects of the foundation narrative, especially certain ritual acts, in order to suggest possible approaches for future studies.
