This study contains information about flint materials discovered at the site 1 in Wysoka, Łańcut commune. This inventory consists of 57 items. Most of them were discovered in the context of features of the Mierzanowice culture. They are made mainly of Świeciechów flint, and they are of typical Early Bronze Age flintwork nature (half-products of bifacial axes, backed blade knife). In addition, not numerous Neolithic artefacts of the Malice culture were discovered there.

As of 2020, 72 sites dated to those periods have been discovered in the High Bieszczady, most located above 1000 m
a. s. l. on wide ridge zones of different mountain massifs. The majority of these sites have been recorded in the Połonina
Wetlińska massif. They are grouped within several clusters located in specific landscape zones (areas sheltered from rain,
near freshwater and saltwater springs). These sites correspond well with the palynological record of human activity in the
Bieszczady in the Neolithic and the Bronze Age

The paper presents flaked lithic materials from two tell-type Neolithic sites Paradimi and Krovili located in Eastern Thrace. They were obtained during systematic and detailed surface surveys. All the collected lithic materials were examined and described. Some conclusions about processing and sources of raw materials were presented along with comparisons to other Neolithic sites in northern Greece.

Pelisiak A. and Rybicka M. 2021. Settlements and economy of the Funnel Beaker Culture communities. Archaeological and palynological evidence from the annually laminated lake bottom sediments (Gostynin Lake District, central Poland). Sprawozdania Archeologiczne 73/2, 67-92. Palynological information preserved in pollen diagrams is of key importance for investigating prehistoric human activity. According to M. Ralska-Jasiewiczowa (2012, 9), the results of the multidisciplinary research of annually laminated lake sediments carried out in Lake Gościąż and its surroundings in the Gostynin Lake District are of particular importance for assessing anthropopressure in the past. In light of the results of human-environment analyses, the environmental disturbances recorded in laminated bottom sediments from Lake Gościąż can be described as reflecting pollen being to some extent “a report from afar”. In the analysed case, the pollen fallout may have originated from longer distances, and the rec...

This report discusses prehistoric settlement and economic issues on the basis of natural (mainly palynological) evidence and data related to the geographic and social sciences. It is focused primarily on palynology or, more generally, on the role of the natural sciences in prehistoric research. An attempt will be made to prove that palynological evidence is of the paramount importance in studies of the type. Persuaded that palynological observation should be regarded as evidence of virtually objective character, we believe it cannot be overestimated in prehistoric studies, especially those targeted on the economy of prehistoric man and its influence on tile natural environment. A case in point is provided by the palynological examination of laminated sediments from Lake Gościaz (Costynin Lake District) confronted wish the results of archaeological research carried out on Neolithic-period sites in the immediate vicinity of the lake.

This paper presents a chipped assemblage from the Malice culture settlement in Kraczkowa 31. Obsidian artefacts dominate in this inventory. The typological structure of obsidian items (small numbers of cores, flakes and blades, and numerous various chips)  indicates the existence of a specific workshop where processing of this material occurred.

This paper describes the analysis of LBK chipped artefacts discovered during rescue excavations carried out on the site of Hnidavska Hirka in the suburbs of Lutsk, western Volhynia. This assemblage consists of 103 artefacts made of Volhynian flint (93 artefacts) and obsidian (10 artefacts). This material constitutes one of the largest LBK chipped assemblages from area of the Volhynia.

Lake Gościąż is located in a Gostinińskie Lake District (Central Poland). It contains long and good preserved continuous sequence of the annually laminated lake sediments spanning from the end of the last glaciation to contemporary times. They offer unique opportunities for investigating changes in the environment and human activity in the vicinity of the lakes. This paper is focused on correlation of palynological indicators of activity of the Mesolithic people with the picture of settlement in the region. Another problem discussed there question of reliability of palynological data, and therefore their usefulness for studies on settlement and economy.

Sites Cieszacin Wielki 41, Jankowice 9 and Pawłosiów
55 are located in south-eastern Poland, within the area of
Podkarpackie Voivodeship, on south of Jarosław city. In
terms of geomorphology, it is the area of  the Sandomierz
Basin. In 2009–2011, rescue excavations were carried out
in connection with the construction of the A4 motorway
between  Jarosław  (Wierzbno  interchange)  –  Radymno
(Radymno interchange). In addition, with regard to the
site Jankowice 9, non-invasive geophysical surveys were
conducted in 2009. This publication is a comprehensive
development of the materials from all three sites and it
was established with the support of the Ministry of Culture
and National Heritage under the Cultural Heritage, Prior-
ity 5 – Protection of archaeological heritage. The project
was implemented by the Foundation for Archaeological
Centre  in  Rzeszów  in  collaboration  with  the  University
of Rzeszów and the University of Regensburg.
