International Institute of Tropical Forestry


IITF, headquartered in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, is a research and technology transfer institute dedicated to advancing tropical forestry on insular, national, and international levels.

IITF's Work Programs

Scientists, professional, technical and manager staff are conducting research, providing technical assistance, and aiding with technology transfer through the Institute's three major work programs:

The Institute has a long history of research, dating back to the 1920s with the establishment of large-scale trial plantings in El Yunque National Forest with both introduced and native tree species.
