Definitions

  • the invention relates to a protective or holding device for holding small animals, especially dogs in motor vehicles, which device consists of a leash attachable to a harness or collar and a coupling device connected to the leash, which is provided with a seat belt device provided on the vehicle is connectable.
  • a holding device of the type mentioned at the outset has also become known, in which the coupling device consists of a locking element which can be latched into the buckle of a motor vehicle seat belt;
  • This known protective or holding device can be operated easily and allows a firm hold to be achieved, but suffers from the fact that different types of locks are used on motor vehicle seat belts and the locking element has to be designed for a specific type and therefore not together with the other locks can work.
  • the aim is also to achieve a safe positioning or definition of the area where the animal in question is in the vehicle.
  • the protection or holding device of the type mentioned above is characterized in that the coupling device has a holding body which is provided with a slotted opening, the diameter or largest inside dimension of which is approximately the same size as the width of a motor vehicle seat belt, and that the slot leading outward from the opening has a width which permits the pushing through of such a motor vehicle seat belt. Due to the inventive design, the above-mentioned objective can be met very well.
  • the seat belt on the vehicle is connected to the harness or collar of the animal to be secured via a line and a coupling device can also be used by people in the usual way if necessary; this is because the connection of the coupling device to the seat belt device is carried out on the belt itself, so that this seat belt device can be closed in the usual manner by latching its own locking member into its associated belt buckle. This closing can also be carried out when the safety belt device in question is not required to secure a person, where, in this case too, there is the advantage of a better position of the connection point with the coupling device, since in the closed state of the belt buckle and the locking device limb the mobility of the belt is severely restricted.
  • connection of the line to a seat belt device provided on the vehicle can be accomplished very simply by pushing the belt through the slot into the opening provided in the holding body; the stiffness inherent in the belt prevents it from leaving the opening through the slot by itself, but the belt can be pulled out of the opening by hand without difficulty if the holding body is to be detached from the belt.
  • a preferred embodiment of the safety or holding device according to the invention which allows the holding body to be held very well on the belt, is characterized in that the opening has an elongated shape and that the slot leading outward from the opening is approximately in the middle of the longitudinal extension the opening is arranged. Abstract
