DESIGN FOR A MONUMENT.
Specification forming part of Design No 9,960, dated May 8, 1877; application filed April 27, 1577.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES MORGAN, of Brooklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a Design for a Monument, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully shown in the accompanying drawing, to which refer ence is made.
Theinvention relates to a design for gravemonuments; and consists of two base stones or steps, with tapering intermediate parts, and of an obelisk-shaped middle portion, with enlarged capital or top.
In the drawing, A and B are the base-stones, of diminishing size, which are connected by a tapering part, a, interposed between the first and second step.
The second step is connected, by an ogee molding, b, and small square step d, with an obelisk-shaped middle portion, (J, of tapering shape, that supports the enlarged capital D. The connection of the middle portion 0 and capital D is made by a raised band, 6, and outwardly-curved part f.
The capital has Water-shedding ridges g, with central curved and ornamented cappings g, of varying shape.
I claim as my invention The design for a monument, formed of base of steps of diminishing size, intermediate tapering parts, a middle obelisk-shaped portion, with raised top band, and of an enlarged capital with inclined ridges and central raised cappings, substantially as shown and described.
