UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DAVID W. LEWIS AND J OSEPH WILLETT, OF HYDE PARK, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FoR' GARDEN-VASES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,218, dated April 18, 1876 application filed March 9, 1876.
[Term of Patent 7 years.]
.in the accompanying illustration, to which reference is made.
A represents the rim of the vase, made flaring in shape, and ornamented with oak-leaves and acorns. B is the body of the vase, or portion next below the rim, concave, and of gradually-decreasing circumference. O is a head, which may be made heavier or smaller. D is the sides of the vase, the surface of which is perpendicular, or nearly so, and ornamented with raised imitations of oak leaves and acorns. E is the bottom of the bowl of the vase, and extends inwardly at nearly a right angle to the sides D. The bottom E may be plain, corrugated, beaded, or otherwise varied in shape, so long as the general shape is that .namented with oak-leaves and acorns, and G is the base.
The whole vase (bowl and neck) may be set upon a pedestal, or may be used independently of any pedestal whatever, the
base G being suificient.
While we may prefer the ornamentation of oak-leaves and acorns in connection with the rim A and surfaces D and F, yet we do not confine ourselves to that or to any ornamentation, as the parts above mentioned may be made perfectly plain, if desired.
We are aware that the portions lettered B and C, and perhaps the parts lettered F and G, are not, in and of themselves, separately considered, new, andtherefore we make no claim to them as our invention.
What' we claim as our invention is- A design for a garden-vase, as herein shown and described.
