Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE VOGT, OF LIMOGES, FRANCE.
DESIGN FOR DISHES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Design No. 20,250, dated October 28, 1890. Application filed October 4, 1890. Serial No. 367,137. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAVE VOGT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Limoges, in the Department of Haute-Vienne, Republic of France, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Dishes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
The leading feature of my design consists of 10w oval dishes having scroll and shell work and ornamental designs of the time of Louis XV.
The soup-tureen or cove-red dish, Figure 1, is low and oval, having the cover resting within the sides on raised edges. The handles of the dish A A represent the prow of an ancient ship. From the base of the dish, on either side and at the ends, rise medallions B B B, reaching to within a short distance of the top of the dish, surmounted by shell-work and ornamental designs, which form the upper edge of the dish. Separating the medallions are three curved rays 0 C C, rising from the base and spreading out toward the upper edge and separated from the upper rim by scroll-work.
Fig. 2 represents a face view of the cover. The cover is oval, divided into four medallions D D D D, the two on the sides being nearly round, those on the ends being elongated. These are separated by three curved rays J J J J, springing from the center and spreading out toward the outer edge. The medallions and rays are surrounded by ornamental shellwork of the time of Louis XV.
Fig. 3 represents a deep dish or-platter. The form of this deep dish or platter is nearly square. At either end are handles, in relief, of shell and scroll work after the pattern of Louis XV. From the four corners E E E E of the inside rim spring three curved rays F F F F, which spread out toward the outer circumference. These are separated at the two ends by scroll-work, which follows the sides and gradually diminish toward the middle of the long sides, where it is ended by filigreework, leaving on each side a medallion G G.
Fig. 4 represents a face view of a plate. The rim is divided into six inclosures H H H H H H. The same curved rays spring from the inner circumference of the rim and spread out toward the outer circumference. These rays are joined by irregular scroll-work, which forms the outer edge.
What I claim is A design for dishes having medallion divided by curved rays surrounded by scroll, shell, and filigree work, with handles representing the prow of an ancient ship, substantially as herein shown and described.
GUSTAVE VOGT.
