Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM A. KELSEY, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARD.
EPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,674,,dated May 4, 1886.
Application filed February 11, 1886. Serial No. 191,652. Term of patent 7 years.
To a. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. KELsEY, a' citizen of the United States, and a resident of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a certain new and original Design for Cards; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l isa plan of asquare or rectangular card embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a cross-section ofthe same on line x m. Fig. 3 is a plan view of a lozenge-shaped ordiainondshaped card, Showing a somewhat modified construction of the beaded border; and Fig. 4is a section through the beaded border, parallel to the edge of the card, on the line 9 3 Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
The object of my invention is to produce a neat and attractive card having a beaded border extending beyond the flat body of the card. In other words, the leading feature of my design consists in a raised ornamental border constituting a fancy beaded edge forming rows of round or oval ornaments, which may be plain or figured in any suitable manner, so as to present a neat and attractive appearance, the edges of the said individual beads or ornaments being rounded.
On the accompanying drawings, the letter A designateslthe flat body of the card, and B the fancy border of the same, consisting of rows of round or oval beads or ornaments, these ornaments being shown round at C in Figs. 1 and 2, and oval or oblong in Figs. 3 and 4, one-half part of each head or ornament projecting beyond the body of the card. In order to heighten the effect, the edges of the beads or ornaments C and D are rounded or beveled, as will be seen more clearly by reference to Figs. 2 and 4, respectively.
I am aware that cards with scalloped edges, with beveled ed ges,and with beveled scalloped edges have been designed heretofore, and do not, therefore, claim these features, broadly; but
What I claim is- 1. The design for a card herein shown and described, consisting of a perfectly plain fiat body portion surrounded by ascalloped border having a semi-globnlar elevation or head arising from each scallop, snbstantiall y as set forth.
2. The design for a card herein shown and described, consisting of a body portion surrounded by a scalloped border having a. semiglobular elevation or head arising from each' scallop, each bead being concaveon its under side, and the entire scalloped edge of the card being rounded in cross'section, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. KELSEY.
