Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DESlGN FOR PIANO-STOOLS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 8,440, dated June 29, 1875; application filed December 22, 1874. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. ARCHER, of the city of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Piano-Stools 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying illustration, which is a perspective view.
This invention relates to the legs of the stool and consists of the following configuration A represents the body, and B B B the legs. The latter, at the pointot'junction with the body, are provided with scallops or leaves a a. From this point the top I) is made concave, and at the outer end is an offset or boss, 0, surmounted by a head, (i. From this point the outer surface of the leg has a concave, f, which terminates at the bottom with a head, g. The reverse or under side of the leg is provided with convex and concave curves It i, which form an ogee, and the legs are so arranged that the eoncaves of any two of them present a continuous line. The leg below the ofi'set c is square or plain on top, and is angular on the sides. The top has a rabbet or groove, k, on each side, and the sidesacorresponding ofi'set or head, I, at the bottom, the latter following the bottom curves h i the whole length up.
One distinguishing feature of this design is the upper surface of the leg formed with the two eoncaves bf, which presents the two heads (1 g in bold relief. The upper head, by reason of the offset 0, is at such an angle as to present a flat view to the eye. The whole appearance is pleasing, and such as to relieve the monotony of the leg. The heads d 9 may be of any kind desired.
Another feature is the square top and angular sides of the leg, provided with the grooves k 7." and beads l l, as above described.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- The design for the legs of a piano-stool, consisting of the square top and angular sides of the legs, provided with the grooves k k and beadsl I, and having the two heads (I 9, one on the center and the other on the foot, as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEO. Vt. ARCHER.
