DESIGN FOR FRAMES OF SCHOOL-DESKS.
l The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, ALBERT E. Bonnets, of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented certain Improvements in Designs for School-Desks, of which the following is a. specification.
My invention is :n1 improved design for the skeletou frames of my school-desk, originally patented Angnst 17, 1869.
It consists- First, in providing nn enlarged bern-ing on the hinge upon which the desk and book-box revolve.
Second, in a. locking-latch.
Third, in projections or rests for holding the book box and desk firmly, when turned n p for use or folded forward out of the wey.
Fourth, in ornamental design, as hereinafter described.
'lhc drawing represents my design h v three fignres.
Figure l is :t perspective view of my locking-latch.
a. is a. pin, cast solid with it, by which the lnich is lifted.
Figure 2 is :t skeleton end of my book-box.
b is the enlarged bearing upon which it revolves.
c is o. projecting pin, dat upon the left side, which catches on the locking-latch when my seveml pieces are combined als shown hereinafter.
d :1nd f are projections or rests enst on the frame, :1nd serve to hold the book-box :1nd desk firm in its several positions.
Figure 3 is the skeleton end frame which supports my school-desk and seat, and shows the locking-latch, and also the end of the book-box in their combined positions, as designed to be nsed in :t complete desk.
lnrts of the end frame nre ont nwny to show the locking-latch :nid the bern-ing b, and also the projections or rests d. and f.
g is n projection cast on the skeleton end frame. When the desk is turned up for use the restd presses on the under side of the projection g, and when the desk is folded forward and down, the rest f presses it on thc upper side.
The latch is pivoted :tt the point It.
'.llhe pin on the latch, by which it is lifted, passes ontwnrdly through the slot mv in the frame.
lVhen the desk is turned up for use the end of the int-ch catches the projection c and locks the desk firmly.
The basis of this locking device is in the ornamental form of the skeleton frame, which resembles the outline oi" nn nrtists palet-te.
The form shown and described is for the left end of Witnesses D. P. CLEVELAND, J. K. Ginons'r.
