Specification `forming part of Letters Patent No. SJHPG.
To all wlw/'1t it may concern,.-
Be it known that we, L. G. Anno'r'r, S. D. Turrrn, and M. L. HoL'r, of Eaton, in the Preble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements j in Combined School Seat and Desk; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and, to the marked thereon, which form a part of this speciication, in which- Figure 1 represent-s a front perspective of our invention. tive of its opposite side; and Fig. 3 a side elevation of one of the standards, showing thel shape of the grooves cut thereon.
The nature of our invention consists in constructing a portable school desk and seat so Fig. 2 represents a perspec.

prevent the seat from tilting down in front, and fit in a recess lin each end of the seat.
e e designate grooves cut on the inner sides of the standards A, directly above the grooves g. These grooves are inclined, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, for the purpose of keeping the .seat securely in position, and also of allowing the seat to be situated higher, to suit larger scholars.
f and d represent projections situated on the'inner sides of the standards immediately above projections ff and d d, and also act as supports for the seat when adj usted in the grooves e e. The supports on which the front part of the seat rests are provided with rubfor the'purpose already stated. The upper opposite side of the standards is formed with arms or supports b b, which are provided that it may be easily and readily taken apart at their upper ends with grooves h h, made as and put together without the use of nails and j screws, substantially as will behereinafter described.
To enable others to enjoy thcbenets of our invention, we will now describe its construction and operation.
vIn the accompanying drawings,I A represents the standards, made as shown therein, and furnished at their lower-ends or feet with slots, through which pass bolts c a provided with head or cap pieces for confining them therein. These bolts screw into metal plates a a', by means of which the desks may be secured to the iioor, said plates being furnished with holes, through which screws pass.
B designates the back of the seat, which slides or rits in grooves cut on the upper insides of the standards A.
O designates the seat, which is provided on each side, ne'ar its rear end, with a projection, c, which fits into an inclined groove, y, terminating in a round opening, and eut on the innel sides of the standards A.
d cl are projections secured to the sides of the standards, which are designed as supports for the front edges of the seat C. These supports are furnished with rubber, for the purpose of preventing noise while the desk and seat are being adj usted, the projections or supports of the desk being likewise supplied with rubber.
ff designate projections fastenedto the in ner sides of. the standards, so that they will seen in Fig. 3, into which fit projections 7c 7s, secured to the sides of the board or desk D.
Z designates a projection fastened to each side of the standards, and resting on the upper rear sides of the desk in recesses, so asto keep that portion of the desk in position. On the outer ends of arms b are placed supports n,.supplied with rubber, so that they will allow the desk to have the required inclination, and also keep its outer end in place.
h' h2 designate grooves cnt in the sides of the standards in a line with the grooves h, and made as seen in Fig. 3. By means of these grooves the desk or board D may be adjusted to suit differentsized children. The grooves h' are also supplied with projections l and supports n, situated directly beneath the project-ions Z and a, and at the same inclination, for the purp ose already described. |The grooves are designed to receive the bottoni or shelf F of the desk, they being supplied with projections or stays Z2, which rest in openings or recesses on the inner ends of the bottom F. The arms or supportsb b are recessed on their inner surfaces, in order to admit of the board or desk D being placed in its proper position.
m m are apertures cut on the outer edges of the desk D and bottom or shelf F, so as to allow them to pass any of the projections with which they may come in contact while being folded up or put together. Thus it will be observed, from the foregoing arrangement, that we dispense entirely with the use of nails or y trouble in manu screws in constructing onr portable desk and l In testimony that We claim the foregoing` as Seat,\vh-ieh greatly diminishes the expense and our own we affix our signatures in presence of 'aeturing desks and seats. two Witnesses.
