le it known that l, 'l'umms l'. Grafenau, a citizen of the l'nited States, residing at the city ol' Philadelphia, in the county of lhiladelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a A\lanhole-Cover, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in Which Figure l is a top or plan view ol a manholeeover, showing the particular shape or con figuration of the cover of my design; and Fig. 2 isa vertical sectional view on the line .r .ref Fig. l.

The two views are deemed essential to a proper or full disclosure and illustration of the design for and in a n1anhole-eover of my invention.

As illustrated in the drawings, the leading feature of my design consists of the cover A, substantially dish shape in eross-seetion,with the base a upwardly or eonvexly curved inward toward the middle of the bottoni from the periphery. The base uy is provided with an outwardlyflaring surrounding wall a', merging into an angular rim a, forming an offset d3 on the inner side of the cover about the riin portieri, in which the surrounding inq made to taper from the lmse n* of the oll'set of the rim tothe top ol' the rim, so as to provide a greater surface in crossseelion from the base to the top di of the rim (12 of the cover A. Opposite each other in the oflset rim portieri filare provided innerenrved projeetions r and substantially semieircular recesses o, with openings rfi about said recesses and extending into the liody of the offset portion n3 of the riin n2, as illustrated in Fig. l. The under side u of the enver A is provided with acentral annular rib (L7, with a series of radial tapering wings or arms u. extending therefrom and forming part of the bottom ot' the oever.
