DESIGN.
J. A. PRICE.
0001mm STOVE No. 18,304. Patented May 8, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. PRICE, OF SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,304, dated May 8, 1888.
Application filed March 21, 1888. Serial No. 268,015. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. Paton, of Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cooking- Stoves, of which the following is a specifica tion, reference being bad to the accompanying photographs, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a cooking-stove of my design. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Similar letters of reference in both figures indicate the same parts.
The primary object had in view in the production of my improved design has been to represent on the different portions of the stove the various portions of the Indian corn or maize plant. This idea has been carried out in the following manner:
On the panel of the ovendoor is the representation of a portion of a stalk of corn, let tered A, passing diagonally across the panel from corner to corner and ending abruptly at either end with leaves B and a stripped ear, C, thereon, while on the frame of said door, surrounding the panel, is represented an ornaniental bordering of young coi'nplants, D. On the outside portion of the frame of the door I opposite the fire-box of the stove, there is represented a bordering of young corn-plants, e, and the middle bar of said frame presents the appearance of a succession of grains of corn, 0'.
The appearance presented by the door F, leading to the ashpit, is as follows: The panels of said door bear the representation of leaves of corn curled in fanciful shapes, as at ff, while near the lateral edges of said door are representations of sections of cornstalks, f'f, having leaves f, curving inward to the middle vertical bar of said door. At the bottom of said middle bar of the door is represented the end of an ear of eorn,f
The front panel, G, of the stove bears the representation of an ear of green corn and leaves, g, and a similar representation, h, on the removable top plates is represented in Fi 2.
an the hearth-plate I there is the representation of an ear of green corn, 5, and arm mental scroll-work 6.
Each of the legs of the stove represents a cornstalk, K, showing the roots k at the bottom and branched or spread out at the top, as shown.
The general appearance of a stove embodying these features of design is both unique and pleasing.
I claim as new- 1. In a design for cooking-stoves, the ovendoor herein described and shown, consisting of the panel, the section of cornstalk, A, passing diagonally across the same from corner to corner, leaves B, and single ear of corn 0, with its covering-leaves shown opened, exposing the grains of corn.
2. In a design for cooking-stoves, the the box door herein described and shown, having the bordering of young corn-plants e on the frame.
3. In a design for cooking-stoves, the door herein described and shown, consisting of the panels, on which are located the leaves of corn ff and the stalks f f, with the leaves f curving inward.
4. In a design for cooking stoves, the herein described and shown removable top plates, having upon each of them the representation of an ear of green corn and leaves.
5. In a design for cooking-stoves, the herein described and shown hearth-plate, having thereon the representation of an ear of green corn, t, and ornamented scroll-work.
6. In a design for cooking-stoves, the herein described and shown stove-legs, having upon them the representation of a cornstalk, K, with branched upper portion and roots la.
7. The design for cooking-stoves,substantially as herein shown and described, consisting in the representation of cars of corn on the lids, hearth, and doors, and the representation of the base of the cornstalks on the stove-legs, with roots and leaves.
