ARTHUR L. HALLIDAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BIGELOW CARPET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,769, dated October 11, 1887.
Application Bled September 8, I887. Serial No. 249.|F4. Term of patent 3} years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR L. HALLIDAY, of New York city; in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original 5 Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanyingphotograph, which forms a part ofthe same. 7
The invention relates to a. design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view ofa carpet showing my new design.
My design consists ofa body portion, A, and a border portion. B.
The body part A of my design consists oi'a prominent curving steurwork inclosiug or supporting within its curves irregular and varied leaf and flower forms. The ends and branches of the stem curve around, terminating in spiral or scroll shapes. Here and there upon or within the stern-work are large leaves or flowers grouped with smaller figures. Be- 25 tween the prominent'figures are less prominent open-work figures of irregular outline. The border B has asimilar curving stemwork, two stems starting from a central point and curving in opposite directions. Small 0 leaves and flowers are clustered around the central point from which the stems project, and in the angles formed by the spreading stems large leaves are placed. Smaller figures are attached to the stem at different points.
What I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In a design for carpets, the body A, substantially as shown.
2. In a, design for carpets, the border B, sub- 4 stantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the body A and border B, substantially as shown.
