Description

O -EJ DESIGN.
J. WYSHART.
CARPET.
. Patented Oct. 11,1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH WISHART, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BIG-ELOVV CARPET COMPANY, OF CLINTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,790, dated October 11, 1887.
Application filed August 30 1887. Serial No. 248,318. Term of patent S years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH WISI-IAR'I, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
My design comprises a body part, A, and a border, B.
The main feature of the body part A is the congeries of flat circular flower forms, constituting a thick mass or bed of flowers of varying sizes and outlines, overlying and intertwining with one another. At irregular intervals occur larger and more prominent circular flower forms, and between these the smaller and less prominent ones are closely massed, with a few leaves scattered in here and there. The middle portion of the horde] B is of a similar character. The border has an inner margin of an ornamental character, with waving lines, and its upper edge is of a wavy outline. Beyond the middle portion is a band with ornamental edges. Along the mid dle of this band extends a continuous stemwork of a wavy character, and upon this stemwork are supported at regular intervals large star-shaped flowers and between them smaller star-shaped flowers and leaves. The portioi of the border outside this band is ornamentef with a conventional stcm-and-leaf form re peated continuously.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure 1); Letters Patent, is-
1. In a design for carpets, the body A, stil stantially as shown.
2. In a design for carpets, the border I substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of ti body A and border B, substantially as show;
JOSEPH VVISHART. Witnesses:
