Patented Sept. 16, 1884.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. LATUS, ()l" BROOKLYN. .\'l".\\' YORK.
DESIGN FOR A CURTAlN-CORNICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15.415. dated September 16. 1884.
Application tiled Juno l7 H94. 'l'i-rni f patent T \vai To all whom, it "ML/,1 concerns lie it known that I, James S. LA'll'S. of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cornices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention has relation to designs for cornices such as are employed at windows and doors in connection with curtains and other draperies.
Figure l is a front elevation, and Fig. 2 a top or plan view, of my newly-designed cornice, these two views being deemed all that is necessary to fully illustrate my design.
In both figures like letters of reference wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts.
B is the exterior or ornamental part of the cornice, extending above and below the part A, as indicated in the elevation, and across the ends thereof, as indicated in the plan, so as to conceal the said part A from view when the cornice is in position. The exterior is ornamented at top and bottom by a series of semicircles, a a, on the inner sides of which is the trifoliated figure, as indicated at b b, leaving the margins of the cornice in the form of open-work, which gives the same a light and pleasing appearance. I provide two parallel ribs or ridges or headings, c c, which project outwardly from the exterior surface, as plainly shown. The plain or central band thus bounded by the headings is relieved in front by pro- 5 jecting knobs I I, located at suitable intervals,
consisting of the open-work ornamentation at 50 top and bottom, the parallel headings, intermediate plain portion, projecting knobs d d, and end knobs, C C. p
2. The herein-described design for a cornice,- consisting of the open-work ornamentation at- 55 top and bottom, showing a series of semicircles, a a. having inner trifoliated figures, b b, the parallel headings, intermediate plain portion, projecting knobs d d, and end knobs,
In 'testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
