RAG CARPET.
No. 15.290. Patented Aug. 19, 1884.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO HEJRY THIELE, OF MILYVAUKEE, \VISUONSIN.
DESIGN FOR A RAG CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15,290, dated August 19, 1884.
Application tiled May 2, I884. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, llnsnvlnini ia, of Milwaukee, in the countyot' llIilwaukte and State ot'\Visco1isi11, have originated and invented a new and ornamental Design for Rag Carpets; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, forming a part of this speeitieation.
My design relates to that class of carpets denominated rag carpets, and it (-onsistsin certain peculiarities of ornamentation going to make up a pleasing and eil'eetive whole, as indicated by the accompanying photographic t'ac-siinile.
In my design I show, first, a series ofst ripes, A A, in which the warp-threads show in each instance on the same transverse lines the entire width of the stripe, whilealternating with these stripes A A are the cheek-stripes i II, which consist, in elt'ect, of a plurality of independent stripes, b I), themselves arranged alternately, so that the warp-t1] reads in the parts I) of the stripe 13 shall show in different transverse lines from the warp-threads in the parts b of said stripe 15; and, further, the said warpthreads form transverse stripes of individual varying and unequal width, and the several independent checks on the same transverse line are of dilferent diameters one from the othcr, and irregular in this dili'erence,as shown in the said accompanying photograph.
Having thus described and illustrated my new and original design, what I claim is 1. In a design for rag carpets, the alternate continuous stripes A, and broken or check stripes 13, having transverse lines of varying width, substantially as set forth and shown.
.2. In a design for rag carpets, the combination of the continuous stripes A A, alternate check-stripes, l B, the latter consisting of the alternate independent stripes I) and b, and the transverse stripes of varying and unequal width, substantially as set forth and shown.
3. In a design for rag carpets, the cheek stripes ll l, consisting of the alternate independent stripes, 11 aud o, and the transverse stripes of varying and unequal width individually, displaying checks otirregularly dift'erent diameters one from the other on the same transverse line, substantially as set forth and shown.
4. The design for rag carpets, consisting of the stripes A and B, substantially as described and shown in the accompz'lnying photograph.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in
the county of Milwaukee and State of \Viseon sin, in the presence of two witnesses.
