VNUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM E. BARTON, OF EAST HAMPTON, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A BELL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,263, dated September 11, 1883. A ppllcation lcd July 30, i883. Terni of patent 14 years.
T0 @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WM. E. BARTON, of East Hampton, in the eountyof Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Bells; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specification, and represents a side View.
This invention relates to a design for that class of bells which are open-mouthed and hung at the top to a handle or other attach ment by which the ringing is produced; and thedesigu consists in the configuration of the exterior of the bell, as shown in the accompanying illustration, and hereinafter described.
The bell represents two sections, the lower section, A, being substantially the shape of the usual gong-bell. This is sdrinounted by the second section, B, of considerably smaller dia-meter than the larger diameter of the lower portion, and so as to give the appearance of a line or angle, a, on the surface of the bell between the two sections. The upper section, B, is gradually contracted to the top, Where the handle may be applied. The upper section may be somewhat changed in its outline without departing from the design, the essential fcature of the design being the lower or gong-shaped section with an upper section springing from it, and so as to produce the appearance of a defined line between the two.
I claim- The herein-described design for a bell, con sisting of the lower gong-shaped section A, the upper section, B, springing from the top of the lower section, and of less diameter, and so as to produce the appearance of an angle between the two sections, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
