No .lO,878. Patented Oct, 22,1878,

GURDON XV. HULL, OF VVALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO SIMPSON, HALL, MILLER & CO., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR SPOON AND FORK HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,878, dated October 22, 1878; application filed October 12, 1875-. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GURDON \V. HULL, of Viallingford, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Spoon and Fork Handles; and 1 do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to he a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent a face view.
This invention relates to a design for handles of spoons, forks, and like articles of table service; and consists in the configuration and ornamentation, as more fully hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
From the bowl the handle gradually contracts for about one-third its length, thence gradually expands in a curve upward for a second third, then still continuing the expansion, but on an inward curve, to the widest point, thence turning inward, curved to the end, producing what is known as a laucetshaped end. Around the edge of the handle is a bead, and close within this a second head, following the outer to the narrowest point in the handle, thence expanding in a line conforming to the edge, but expanding to a less degree to the broadest part of the handle, where the two heads are brought together in a semicircle, which leaves a gradually-expanding space between the inner and the outer beads, which is filled with a. fioriated vine. The space iuclosed by the inner head is left plain.
The tracery may be varied somewhat without departing from the feature of this design, it only being essential that there shall be traoery within the said space, so as to form afloriated border for the internal panel.
I claim- The design for spoon-handle, consisting of the gradually-expanding shape, drawn inward to form the lancet tip, with head around the edge, a second head within the first at each side, gradually expanding, but to a less degree than the head at the edge, coming together in semicircular form below the tip, leaving a plain panel in the center, and a gradually-expandin g space between the outer and the inner bead, filled with ornamental traoery, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
GURDON W. HULL.
