DESIGN.
W. M. SMITH. Burial-Gasket Handle.
10,357. Patented Dec. I8, 1877 c, un MW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. SMITH, OF MERIDEN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO MERIDEN BRITANNIA COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR BURlAL-CASKET HANDLE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,357, dated December 18, 1877; application filed November 30, 1877.
[Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W'ILLIAM M. SMITH, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for Casket-Handle; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in conneotion with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, front view.
This invention relates to a design for caskethandle, with special reference to the parts called the socket and the tip, and it consists in the configuration and ornamentation of these parts, as shown and described.
A represents the bar which forms the handle, and is attached to levers B. The tip C forms an extension and finish for the end of the bar, apparently extending through the lever. This tip, at its base a is substantially the same diameter as that of the bar, and is beaded annularly; and from this beaded base the tip contracts in slightly-concave lines into a conical form, as shown in illustration.
This beaded base and conical form constitute the peculiar characteristic of this part of the design.
The socket-base consists of a plate, D, substantially square, on the surface of which are two or or more series of beads, d.
The outline of the plate may be somewhat varied Without departing from the general features of this design, it only being essential that the outline of the plate be substantially square, and that the surface be ornamented by the two or more series of beads, and these beads may be either sunk or raised.
The socket-base may be used with handles of different designs, or the tip may be used in and described.
