GPBCIPICATION forming part of Design N0. 16,576 dated March 16, 1886.
Application llled December 28, 1885. Serial No. 186,968. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M. SMITH, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Design for a Coffin-Handle Socket; and I do hereby declare the following when taken in connection with accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to he a full, clear, and exact description of lhe same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure l, a face view of the socket; Fig. 2, a vertical section on line a: at; Fig. 3, atransverse section on line 3 y.
This invention relates to a design for the socket by which handles are attached to coffins; and it consists in the configuration of the socket-plate, as shown in the accompanying illustration. The two 'vertical edges of the socket are substantially straight and parallel.
The upper and lower ends are rounded-that is, of segment shape. The surface of the socket is convex, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3; but at the two sides the surface is chamfered-that is, inclines from the face backward to the edges, as seen in Figs. 1 and 3.
The convex surface with the chamfered sides constitutes the peculiar characteristic of this design.
I claim- The herein-described design for coffin-handle socket, presenting a convex surface, the vertical sides substantially parallel, the sides chamfered or inclined from the face backward to the edges, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
