11.50. BEARDsL-EY. PHYSIGIAN-S TABLET HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 4, 1909.

Specification of Letters Patent. x
Application illed August 4, 1909. '.ierial No. 511,175. f
To all whom it may concern: I Be it known that I, HARBER C. 'BEARDS- LEY, a citizen of the Unitedl States residing at Lakewood, in the county of uyahoga and State of Ohio, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improvement in Physicians Tablet-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. -1
This invention relates to a holder. forl medicinal tablets adapted to be conveniently' carried by a physician. .y
The object is to provide a holder whicli time, into any suitable receptacle, without .touching Vthem with his hands.
The holder is especially Vadapted for holding hypodermic tablets, and delivering them one at a time into the syringe.
The invent-ion consists of a tube having an opeuend through which it may (be filled and having at the other end a metalcap which serves as a slide guide, and an ejecting slide mounted on said cap and adapted to-eject the tablets one by one from the tube,
a stopper for closingthe normally open end of the tube, and a light coil spring compressed between .the stopper and the column of tablets whereby ythey are held in operative relation with the eecting slide. v
It also consists in the more specifically declaims.
Inv the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective fined combinations ofparts as recited in the view of a device embodying the invention;v
Fig. Q isa llongitudinal section thereof; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the cap carrying end of said device, thesection be-f ing at right angles to the section shown in rFig. 2. 'These drawings show the device as of about threev times the size required for hypodermic tablets.
`Referring to the parts by letters, A represents a glass tube, one end of which is to be closed by a stopper C. To the other end of this tubea cap Bis secured, ,said cap comprising a band b which tightly'embraces the tube and a laterally extended plate b havingDoverturned edges bzlto form a guideway. U .represents an ejecting slide mounted in said guideway,-that is tosay, pro'ectin'g beneath the overhanging edges of sai plate. At its ends this ejecting slide is furnished with the bentdown'ngers d', (Z2, adapted o see how many tabf to engage the cap and thereby to. limit the movements of Said slide. In .the slide is an outwardly pressed pocket d of such internal size as corresponds .substantially with the 'size of the tablets which the holder is adaptedto cont-ain.' Normally, `that is to say, when vone of the iigers on the slide engages i with the cap, this pocket will be lalined with the tube. When themslide has beenmoved far enoughv to move thev other finger into engagement with the cap, this pocketiwill have moved laterally so vfall out. i
After' the-tube has been charged with as .many tablets as it .should contain, avery The springthereby serves to move the column of tablets normally `in the tube so as to cause the u per tablet to enter the described pocket. I desired, the stopper may be softening and bending over some parts of whether his holder contains as many tablets as he is apt -to need. It protects said tablets from dirt; it prevents them from 'being broken by attrition against one another, and `it also enables him to eject therefrom one tablet at a time and to deposit itin the open end of a hypodermic syringe or into any other receptacle, without being obliged with his hands.
The device is carefully made with the joints suficiently air tight to prevent access t0 its interior of any material quantity of enough to compensate for the withdrawal Aof a tablet, thereby protecting the remaining tablets from possible too rapid deterioration through frequently admitted consider-.j
their chemicalv properties.
Having describedmy invention, I claim 1. In a physicians tablet holder, the combination of avtube, a stopper for closing one end thereof, a spring restingl upon said stopband and extending away ,from it at one side, bent overhanging 'flanges forming thata tablet therein may light spring is placedtherein against the bottom tablet and then the stopper C is .in-
serted, thereby compressing this spring. v
sealed into the tube as,"for example, by
.the lower edge ofthe glass tube as shown in y Fig.v 2. The described tablet holder/ is one which permits the physician to observe .fresh air, not more at anyone time than able bodies' of fresh air acting upon any of.
` Patented Dec. e, 1910.
to touch it per, a band embracing the delivery end of l the tube, an integral lateral plate on said guide grooves on the lateral` edges of said plate, \a longitudinal slot in the extension of said plate, with a slide plate mounted in said guide grooves and closing the delivery end of the tube, stops formed at each end of said slide to limit its reciproeation, therear one of which lies in the said slot of the lateral plate, an outwardly pressed pocketin said slide plate opening inwardly to the tube and'adapted to be held in alinement therewith by the front stop or moved laterally therefrom to a plane beyond the tube such movement being limited by the rear stop in said slot. i
2. `In a physieians tablet holder, the combination of a glass tube, a stopper for clos- 1 g one end thereof and immovably sealed 1n place, as described, after the tube is charged with tablets, a spring resting upon said stopper,` a band embracing the dellvery end of the tube and rigidly secured thereon, a lateral plate rigidly secured on said band and extending away from it at one side, ovm-hanging Han es forming guide grooves on the 'lateral eges of said plate, with a slide plate mounted in said guide grooves and closing the delivery end of the tube, stops formed at each end of said slide to limit its reciprocation, an outwardly pressed pocket in said slide plate opening inwardly to the tube and adapted to be held in alinement therewith by the front one of said stops or moved laterally therefrom to a plane beyond the tube being limited in sueh movement by the rear one of said stops.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
