Description

T. C. BARRETT STERILIZING DEVICE Filed larch Q. 1925 Dec. 8, 1925.
Patented Da. 8, 1925. e I
-U NlTE STATE 7 ATE 1 s THOMAS ammmnm HARTFORD; CONNECTICUT.
, ,STERIfLIZ G' D E I Application filed March To all whom it may concern." i
Be it known that I, THOMAS C; BARRETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hartford, in I the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements '-in' SterilizingfDevices,of which the following is a specification. I
v This invention relat'esto' sterilizing devices, "and moreparticularly to a sterilizer particularly adaptedfor use in connection with the mouth pieces of telephones.
i 3 In the present invention, I provide a casing fadapt'ed'to receive a disinfectant'hold- 1 above thedisinfectantholder ancl*coimni 1nier, j and :furtherprovide a holdena'rranged cating" therewith, the upper holder being adapted to removably s'up'porta sponge "or 1 other absorbing medium'shap'ed to fitthe inside of a telephone-mouth piece;
An object of the invention'is' to provide a, vconstruction in; which the sponge may be I this showing: 7
readily separated fromits supporting mem-' ber for the purpose of cleaning or replacing the sponge. f
A further object is to provide means whereby the disinfectant is always obtainable and at the same time prevent evaporation of it.
In the accompanying drawings, I have shown one embodiment of the invention. In
Figure 1 is a central vertical sectional view, I Figure '2 is a horizontal sectional online 22 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a cover view or supporting member towhich the sponge able material and of approximately the same shape as the telephone mouth iece, is arranged within the casing. Th1s holder is provided'with an extension 5 at the bottom, adapted to be received within the neck of 20, 1925; semi uo. 17,05 s;
bulb and provided with a passage 6 through which the disinfectantjmay flow; I V A sponge 7 (see Figure 5) is adapted to'be,
arranged within the holder and this sponge is provided withan upper flangel8q 'A'supaorting member 9 of suitablyrigid material is secured to the flange of the sponge and is'provided with a; handle}10, by'means of which the sponge may be reinoved fro'inthe holder, when desired. As "sh0w1 1,-'this sup-v po'rting'inember is provided with 'a periph er'al' fla'nge 11, having-spaced projections} 12. A rim 13 is adapted to -be arrangedlon V H 1 the under sideof the flange: or spo n'ge (see Figure-'1) and this rim is pro videdi with @11 out portions or-{ recess'es' lfiusimilarftin f shape tothe projections zl2"'a'nd:- similarly spacedbn the-rimxgi l heqrimis furtherpro I i vided with anupstruckportiony15 to: permit it to" be rotated to: bring the projections 12 and recesses l t-out" ofalinementf;(see Figure 2) L1 The outer casing inlay a be provided w'it11 a suitablelivcoversllfi. which, asashown, I a
maybe hinged to the casing. p is In operation, the rim '13fis' passed over the smaller end of the sponge and arranged beneath the flange. 'Thesupporting member 9is thenpassed over the top of the sponge and the projections 12,passed over 7 the recesses 14 in the rim. The rim is then turned by engaging the upstruckiportion l5 to'bring the recesses and projections out of alinementu The sponge is then placed in the holderv and when it is to be used, jpres sureis appliedto the handle 10eto depress the upper holder 4 and force-'Ethe disinfectant through the passage-6 to the sponge.
The sponge isthen removed and the interior I .95 cleaned and sterilized by placingthespon'ge 7 of thelmouth piece of the telephonemay, be
within itand rotating it* slightly to apply- 7 the disinfectant thereto.
The sponge may 7 i .be readil removed from thesupporting member orthe purposeof cleaning it or replacing it. The bulb 2'may bev refilled with disinfectant by depressing it and pour ing the disinfectant'throughthe upper hold-' er. It will be apparent that the supporting.
member 9 also serves'as a cover to prevent the" disinfectant from passing upwardly through the sponge and evaporating.
It is to be understood thattheform of my invention herewith shown and described 1 is to be taken as a preferred example of the same,and that various changes in the shape,
no f
,size,'and arrangement of parts may be resortec'l' to Withoutdeparting from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Iclaim:
1.- In a device of the character described, an outer casing, a compressible bul'b arranged in the bottom of said casing and adapted to contain a disinfectant, an upper holder arranged above. said bulb and comnunlcatlng therew th, sa d upper holder be- 1 m va le to mpre mdrb a d a absorbing memhenarranged in said upper a holder.
2. 111 a device of the character described, an outer casing, acomp ressible bulb arranged in the botto'mof sa d casing and adapted to containia disinfectant, anupper holderemounte'd in said casing and communicating-With said bulb, said upper holder be .1n'g movable to compress said bulb and being of 'substa ntially the same shape as the 'jlIlOLlllll piece-of a telephone, and a sponge an outerpcasing,-acompressible disinfectant holder arranged lnthe bottom of said casia'dapted'to be received-in said-upper holder and snugly fit therein.
w "3; In a device of the characterdescribed,
ing, a movable upperholder arranged above said disinfectant holder and communicatingtherewith, said-holder being of substantially theisame shape as the mouth piece of a tele- 1,564,748 a j fa ranged in. the bottom of said casing, an upper holder arranged above said disinfectant holder and communicating therewith-said holder being of substantially the same shape as the mouth piece of a telephone, a sponge adapted to be received in said upper holder;
and snugly fit therein, the :upper end" of said sponge being provided with a flange, a ring arranged beneath said flange, and a supporting member arranged above; said sponge, said supporting memberbeing provided with projections extending. beneath said flange and engag ng said ring.
5. In a device of the character described,
a compressible disinfectant holder, an upper holder secured to the upper end of said dis-;
V intectant holder and coininunicating therewith, a sponge adapted to be received in said upper holder and snugly fit therein,
and a cover arranged over said sponge and the upper :edge of adapted to snugly fit said upper holder. V I a I In testi1nony whereof,- I affix rrry'r; signature. 7 1 THOMAS OYBABRETT,
