FRANK JOSEPH SCI-IOLZ, OF HELENA lVIGNTAN, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO RAYMOND VIENDEL SCI-EOLZ, GF HELENA, MONTANL SINGLE-DELIVERY MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
atented Aug.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK JOSEPH SeHoLz a citizen of the United States, residing at itlelena, in the county of Lewis and Clark and State of Montana, have invented certain useful improvements in Single- Delivery Match-Boxes, of which the follow` ing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
The present -invention has reference generally to improvements in that class of inventions known as special receptacles and packages and more particularly relates to a single delivery match box.
ris the primary aim and object this invention resides in the provision of a match box wherein the matches contained therein may be readily and quickly ejected one at a time upon the actuation of the delivering or ej ecting means.
lt is an equally important object of this invention to provide a match box of such a nature that the matches will be always held in a position to be ejected and will thus cooperate with the ejecting means to assure of an effective operation of the latter.
More particularly the present invention embraces the provision of a match box of suoli a construction that it can be readily re-lled and at the same time is so constructed that the matches therein may be properly adjusted without necessitating the opening of the box. n
Among the other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the above character with a view to compactness, and in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production low and the efficiency high. Y
Other improvements and novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the apparatus will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which for a clear understanding of the invention should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed for the purpose of illustration a convenient and satisfactory embodiment of the invention. lt is to be noted in this connection that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the principle of operation of the various parts.
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanyinc' drawings, in which:
figure 1 is a perspective of the device in a closed position;
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.;
Fig. i is a front elevation of the invention;
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken on line 5-5 of `Fig. 2.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all the above described views to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring new, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings, there is provided a match box the body 1 of which is tangular in configuration and consists of spaced end walls :2 connected by a bottom 8 and a top A longitudinal partition 5 is connected to the end walls and to the bottom and top dividing the body of the receptacle into two compartments G while doors T constituting side walls of the body are pivotally connected to one of the end walls a' indicated by the numeral 8 and are removably held in a closed position by latches 9.
lifith a view toward providing the improved ejecting means one of the end walls is provided with a pair of vertically arranged openings 10 while opposed flanges 11 are mounted on the inner surface of the end wall on opposite sides of cach opening and serve as guides for the ejecting slides 12. Each of these ejecting slides consists of a plate-like body of a rectangular configuration slidably mounted in the flanged guides 11 for removably closing the opening while bars 13 are carried by the inner surfaces of the plates and vertically thereof and provided with match engaging teeth 14 which are inclined toward the body of the box so that when one plate is moved upwardly through the instrumentality of thumb pieces carried by the outer surface and adjacent the lower end thereof the teeth are designed for engagement with the stem of the match in a manner that will become apparent so as to move the match upwardly Vand pass it through one of the ejecting openings 16 formed in the top of the box adjacent said side wall.
As intimated, improved means have been provided for coperating with the ejecting means to assure of the position of a match at all times adjacent the ejecting slide. In
reducing this feature of the invention to practice a follower plate 17 is mounted in each compartment and is controlled by expansion coil springs 1S the respective ends of which are secured to one end wall of the receptacle and adjacent the base of the adjacent follower plate for holding the follower plate at all times in yielding engagement with matches 19,' preferably disposed alternately in each compartment as indicated. As is apparent, the outermost match is at all times yieldingly held against the toothed bars 18 so that uponV upward movement of one of these bars the match will be projected through the ejecting openings 1G. The matches of course are placed in the compartment through the instrumentality of the adjacent door.
In the event that any of the matches become clogged, in order to examine the interior of the compartment without opening `the doors, openings 20 are provided in the top for communication with both compartments being removably closed by slides 2l.
ln view of the foregoing description it is thought' that a further detailed description of the operation of the invention is entirely unnecessary. Likewise it is believed that the advantages of the invention will be readily apparent.
As many. changes could vbe made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could be made without departing from the scope of the invention, and it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limited sense. It is also to be understood that the language used in the followingl claim is intended to cover all the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention, which as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween. f
Having thus fully described this inventien, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
A match box comprising a rectangular body the top of which is provided with an exit opening and with. a rectangular opening, the front wall being provided with a rectangular opening, a swingingly mounted door serving as one side wall of the body, so that matches in bulk may be placed therein, a latch carried by thel door for holding the same in closed position, a follower plate carried within the body, springs compressed between the follower plate and the rear wall of the body, the fol-lower plate bearing upon matchesplacedl in the body and foreing them toward the forward end where the foremost match is in position to be ejected through the exit opening' in the top of the body, flanged guides formed on the inner surface of the front wall adjacent the rectangular opening` therein, an ejecting plate mounted in theiflangedguides and comprising a plate-like body, a serrated match engaging barand a linger piece which projects through the said rectangular opening, whereby the raising of the ejecting plate may elect the ejection ofv a match through the exit opening, and av slide closing the reetangular opening in the top for the purpose specified- In testimony whereof l allix my signature.
