Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. WAL-` THER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Booneville, in the county of 5 Cooper and State of Missouri, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Posts, of W'hich the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in concrete posts, and it consists in the combinations and constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed. 4 y A11 object of my invention is to provide a post having a reinforcing member and an 15 attachment adapted to be secured"` thereto, "l for fastening Wires. A further vobject of my invention is to Vprovide a fastening device by means of l, which the Wires carried by the posts may be lsecured Without the use of nails or staples. Further objects and advantages will ap- "pear in the `following specification, and the novel features of the device will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

1 Referring nowto the drawings, I have shown therein a post A having a body portion made of,y concrete and having embedded therein a bar B. This bar, as will be seen from the drawings, is situated centrally of 40 fthe post and extends approximately a foot `{beneath the ground. In constructing the posts the rodV B and the fastening member D are secured together by means of the bolts C. These -members are then put into the mold and the concretelis then packed around them.

After the concrete has set the fastening member 1D and the bolts C may be Withdrawn.- This leaves a V-shaped groove F of the same shapeasthe inside portion ofthe fastening member, and recesses G in the concrete structure for the reception of the bolts. l,

From the foregoing description of the im- V'proved post, the operation thereof may be readily understood. In setting up the fence, the fastening members of any number of postsmay be loosened, and laid aside*` and the Wires' may be stretched, and, While under tension, the fastening members may be screwed down to clamp wires securely in their stretched condition. The corrugations E prevent the slipping of the Wires in a vertical direction, thereby tending to maintain the wires in position.

The above described structure provides a simple and yet durable fence post, With means for readily attaching or. detaching the Wires therefrom. In ordinary forms fI cement posts, the latter, if broken at all, are apt to be broken at the ground-line, but with the reinforcements extending fully a foot below the ground-line, it Will, be seen that the tendency to break at the ground will be greatlyl decreased, if not entirely prevented. Moreover, the threaded portions .of theA bolts, as Well as the threaded portions of the reinforcing members are incased in` ynd'y therefore `are not subject to the action of the elements. l I claim: l
