Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 16, 1910.
Application filed May 6, 1908. Serial No. 431,281.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES BREMAKER and HENRY D. EooERs, citizens of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county ofJefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Table-Slides; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to table slides for extension tables.
It has for its object to produce a table slide which is free from the objections which have been found to exist from the use of the ordinary wooden slides. Numerous troubles and losses have been caused by such wooden slides warping or getting out of shape. The separate dowel pins or stop lugs employed on wooden slides are objectionable because they are apt to work loose or break off and permit the sections of the slide to be disengaged from one another.
Our present invention contemplates the formation of the slides of sheet metal appropriately bent as hereinafter described to form means of interconnection therebetween and having perforations for the passage of the securing screws. The metal slide will always hold its proper shape, is durable, easy of adjustment and will not warp like the wooden ones. The stop lugs are integral with the slides, being cut and bent up therefrom so that there is no danger of them becoming loose or being displaced.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating the preferred embodiment of our invention: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a three-section slide made in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the grooved side section. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the side section carrying the tongue. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the middle section, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of middle section.
Referring more particularly to Figs. 1 to 4, 1 designates the side section bent to form the upper and lower flanges 2 and a side face 8 in which is formed a dove-tailed groove 4. Perforations 5 are made in the upper flange 2 for the passage of screws'for securing the section to the table. Stop lugs 6 are formed by cutting lips from the metal at the bottom of the groove and bending them out for the purpose of engaging corresponding lugs on the adjacent section. The other side section 7 is bent in a similar manner as the section 1 to form upper and lower flanges 8 and side face 9. Said side face carries a dovetailed tongue adapted to lit the groove in said section 1. In the outer face of said tongue there is formed a groove 10 to house the stop lugs 6 on the section 1 and other stop lugs 11 cut from the metal at the bottom of said groove 10 and bent out similarly and in position to contact with said lugs 6. The upper flange is also provided with perforations to receive fastening screws. The middle section 12, shown in Figs. 1 and 4, of which any required or desired number may be used depending upon the length of the extension table, is formed by securing together sections similar to the side sections 1 and 7 by rivets 13 or other fastening means passed through the overlapping upper and lower flanges. thereof. Said middle section is thus provided with a dove-tailed groove 14 to receive the tongue on one side section and a tongue 15 engaging the groove on the other side section.
In lieu of the construction of middle section shown in Fig. 4, it may be made of a single piece of bent sheet metal as shown in Fig. 5. In this construction, a slot 16 is left at the top between the edges of the metal piece which do not overlap. Said slot permits of the ready insertion of screws to hold the middle section of the slide in place on a pedestal table.
We claim:
A table slide comprising three interlocking sections made of bent sheet metal, one outside section being formed by bending the metal at an angle to form a securing flange and a lateral face, the latter being further bent to form a dovetailed groove, integral lugs struck up from the bottom of said groove, the other outside section being also bent to form a securing flange and a lateral face, the latter being further bent to form a dovetailed tongue, the metal forming the outer face of said tongue being still further bent from the base of said groove, the intermediate section being formed With adovetailed groove and a dove-tailed tongue re- In testimony whereof, we afllx our signatures, 1n presence of two Witnesses.
