Description
tlltted tatta @aient @with F. LAHM, or c'nIcA-eo, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent N 96,446, dated November 2, 1869! IMPRovl-:D SPRING-BED BorroM.
The Schedule referred to :ln these Letters Patent and making part of tho same.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, F. F. LAHM, of Chicago, in the ment in spring-bottoms for beds and sleeping-couches,
and consists in the springs, and in the construction and, arrangement of parts, as hereinafter described.
ln the accompanying drawing- Figure l represents a vertical cross-section of the spring-bottom, through the line :c a: of iig 2;
Figure 2 is a top or plan view. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the bedstead.
B represents metallic hoxes,'which are screwed fast to the posts lof the bedstead, ti'om which boxes the spring-bottom is supported. I
The bottom consists of a lower transverse rail, C, an upper transverse rail D, and the springs E F placed between the upper and the lower rails C and D.
Grepresent-s the longitudinal slats, which are let into the lower rails C, as seen in iig. 1.
These rails (with the slats G) are attached to the lower spring F, by means ot the bands H H.
The two springs at each end of the bottom are confined together at their ends by the bands I I.
The upper spring E is connected with the upper rail D by the bands J J.
The ends ofthe rail D `extend outward on each side, over the ends ot' the springs, sufficiently falzto rest in the boxesB, as seen, so that the bed-bottom is suspended therefrom, while the rails and the springs are held together by lthe bands before mentioned.
These bands are -niovable to or from the centre, so that the elasticity of thesprings may be increased or diminished, as may be desired. 'lhe springs may be made of either wood or metal. lhe transverse rails and longitudinal slats are of course made of wood of any suitable kind.,
By this arrangement, a very durable and highly elastic bottom is ,formed suitable for all kinds ot' beds and sleeping-couches of all descriptions.
Having tlms described my invention,
1 .claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In combination with-a bed or couch-lmttom, the springs E and l confined together and to the rails' of the bottom'by adjustable bands, as shown and described.
2. The combination of the rails D C and slats G with the springs E F, arranged and operating substantially as described and for the purposes set forth. 4
' F. 11. yLAHM.
