DISPLAY A F PORTLAND, OREGON.
PPARATUS.
No. 920,538. Specification of Application filed May 21,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. CANNON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and Improved Display Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to display appara tus, and more particularly to apparatus for exhibiting wares or merchandise, and having rotatable shelves arranged in cylindrical cases, the sides of which are transparent and are slidable, and having, further, flexible traveling members arranged upon u rights of the frame of the device and movab y carrying other shelves.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive display apparatus which has shelves for carrying and exhibiting wares and merchandise, which are movable in diflerent directions and in different ways, to dis lay the exhibited articles in a plurality of fas ions.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts to be more fully described hereinafter and particularly set forth in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the display apparatus, showing parts thereof in vertical section; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that the same is particularly useful in connectionwith show cases for stores and the like, though it can also be ad vantageously applied to other structures used in displaying or exhibiting merchandise or other articles.
I provide a plurality of shelves which are movable and serve to carry the goods displayed. The shelves can be actuated in any convenient way, by hand or by means of suitable driving mechanism such as an electric motor.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 10 re resents the base of the apparatus upon whic are mounted uprights 11, near the ends of the base, and intermediate the ends. The uprights consist preferably of I Letters Patent.
1908. Serial No. 134,0(39.
Patented May 4, 1909.
' beams as is shown most clearly in Fig. 2. At the upper end the uprights 11 carry a top or cover 12. The base and the top 12 may be fashioned from any suitable material such as wood or the like. Above the base 10 the central I-bcam carries a floor 13 of wood or the like.
Upon the base 11, and at the under side of the floor 13, intermediate the uprights, are provided bearings 1 1 in which are j ournaled rotatable columns 15. These have collars 16 which carry laterally extending shelves 17 for displaying articles. These shelves 17 are rotatable, as the columns are so mounted for this purpose. The base and the floor have the extremities rounded and form the ends of two substantially cylindrical cases in which the shelves 17 are positioned. The sides of the cylindrical cases are formed by suitably curved doors 18 provided with portions 19 of glass or other transparent material. The doors are arranged to slide in circular guideways 20 of the base and the floor, and are arranged in pairs which are concentric as is shown most clearly in Fig. 2, whereby they can be arranged to encompass the shelves or can be displaced to permit access to be had to the shelves.
The outer uprights 11, at the inner sides have curved walls 21, while the central up right 11 at the opposite sides has similar walls 21. The uprights carry blocks 22 preferably adjustable longitudinally of the uprights and forming bearings for sprockets 23. Flexible traveling members 24 consisting preferably of chains are mounted upon the sprockets. Shelves 25 having hangers 26 are secured by means of the latter, to links of opposite chains, and can thus travel with the ciains. The shelves 25 are pivotally supported upon the chains and tend gravitationally to maintain normal positions. They serve, like the shelves 17, for the display of articles to be exhibited.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In display a paratus, a base, spaced uprights upon said ass, a top carried by said uprights, blocks adjustable longitudinally of said uprights, sprockets mounted upon said blocks, chains arranged to travel over said sprockets, shelves pivotally carried between opposite chains, and laterally extending walls carried by said uprights and arranged to project beyond said chains.
2. In display apparatus, a base, spaced In testimony whereof I have signed my uprights carried by said base, blocks aclname to this specification in the presence of 10 justable longitudinally of said uprights, rotwo subscribing Witnesses. tat-able members carried by said blocks, entl- EDWARD w SAN NON less members arranged to travel upon said rotatable members, carriers connecting said i endless members, and laterally extending curved Walls proj eating b eyond said uprights.
Vv itnesses JOHN BRACHVOGEL, JOHN P. DAVIS.
