REVOLVING BOOKCASE AND DISPLAY-CABINET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,270, dated February 6, 1894. Application filed February 20,1893- Serial No. 463,186; (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LREUBEN H. OBER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garrettsville, in the county of Portage and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving Bookcases and Display-Oabinets, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

My invention consists of two drums provided with sprocket-wheels and two endless chains 'havin g a series of cases affixed thereto, with the means for supporting said cases and revolving said drums.

The object of my improvement is to prov1de a compact cabinet for the repository of books, papers, medicines, and goods of all kinds, which may be easily and quickly manipulated in such'a manner as to bring the article or articles desired within reach of the operator.

That my invention may be readily seen and fully understood, by others, reference will be had to the following specification and annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a side view of my device; Fig. 2, a top view, the roof of the cabinet having been removed; Fig. 3, an end view of the internal mechanism, and Fig. 4, a cross section on line X, X, Fig. 2.

Similar letters of reference designate like parts in the drawings and specification.

Near the opposite ends of the cabinet A are the vertical drums B, B having the upper and lower sprocket-wheels C and C respectively, rigidly affixed thereto. The drums B, B have their bearings in the roof and floor of the cabinet A. The upper sprocket-wheels C are connected by the endless chain D and the lower sprocket-wheels C by the endless chain D, Figs. 1, 2 and 4. A series of receptacles or cases E, is attached to the chains D and D by means of the rods F, one of said rods being secured to the center of the back of each case E.

At the base of eachdrum B is the pulley G and the endless chain or belt H, having the knobs H arranged at intervals thereon, connects the two pulleys. By grasping the knobs H and forcing them to the right or left it will be seen that the drums B, B and the cases E,

attached thereto by the chains D and D, must be driven in the same direction.

In the roof of the cabinet A is the groove A, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, into which the rods F project and said groove serves as a guide to steady the upper part of the cases E. Attached to the bottom of each case E is the roller I, Figs. 1, 3 and 4, bearing upon the track Jand supporting said'case thereon. The track J is secured to the floor of the cabinet A, above the pulleys .G, G, at J, Figs. 1, 2 and 4. In a large cabinet additional supports would need to be provided for the track J, at the ends thereof. A flat track may be substituted for the round track I, shown in the drawings, and slides may take the place of the rollers I.

The cabinet A may be open both frontand rear, or it may be provided with doors and a drop-lid for writing,in eithercase without departing from the nature of my invention.

Rollers may be applied to the upper ends of the rods F, if desired, whereby the friction between said rods and the sides of the groove A will be decreased when the cases E are reciprocated. A slot may be substituted for the groove A, said slot being surrounded on top of the cabinet by a track, in which case the rods F depend from said track by means of pulley hangers. However I do not consider this latter arrangement essential to the success of my invention.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a revolving book case and display cabinet, the vertical drums B, B located at opposite ends of a cabinet having a grooved or slotted roof, said drumshaving upper and lower sprocket-wheels affixed thereto connected byendless chains, in combination with the cases E secured to said chains by the rods F projecting into the groove or slot in said cabinet roof, in the manner substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a revolving book case and display cabinet, the cases E having rollers or slides at the bottom to support said cases upon the track J and provided with the rods F running in the groove A in the roof of the cabinet A and attached to endless chains connecting the upper and lower sprocket-wheels of the vertical drums B, B, in combination with said drums having the pulleys G, G rigidly secured thereto and connected by an endless chain or belt for revolving the same, in the manner substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The combination, in a revolving book case and display cabinet, of the vertical drums B, B bearing in the fioor and roof of the cabinetA and having the pulleys G, G at the bottom connected by an endless chain or belt, the track J supported from the floor of said cabinet above said pulleys, sprocket-wheels secured to the upper and lower ends of said Witnesses:
