Description

MARGARET OURTIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
COMPOUND FOR CLEANING, POLISHING, AND PLATING METAL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 9, 1909.
Application filed December 7, 1908. Serial No. 466,423.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARGARET CURTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn borough, and. in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Compounds for Cleaning, Po ishing, and Plating letal; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to im rovements in compounds for cleaning, polis iing and plating metal, and which is particularly adapted for cleaning and silver plating brass and copper, and for polishing and re-silvering household articles and silverware.
My composition consists of the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz.
Whitingi 3 lbs. Cream of tartar oz. Cyanid of potassium 3% oz.
Nitrate of silver (argent) 1; oz. Oil ofcloves oz. Oil of sweet almonds oz. Water 1 gal.
agitation.
In using the above named composition the same is a plied by rubbing on the surface of the metal which operation wil thoroughly clean the metal and leave a silver coating or plating which will be brilliant, durable and lasting.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters- Patent, is
1. The herein described composition of matter consisting of whiting, cream of tartar, cyanid of potassium, nitrate of silver (argent), oil of cloves oil of sweet almonds, and water, substantially as described and for the purpose specified.
2. The herein described composition of matter for cleaning, polishing of silver, plating metals consisting of whiting three pounds cream of tartar three-fourths of an ounce, cyanid of potassium three and one-fourth ounces, nitrate of silver (argcnt) one and one-fourth ounces, oil of cloves three-fourths of an ounce, oil of almonds three-fourths of an ounce, and water one gallon, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Wit- MARGARET CURTIN. Witnesses:
