To all when 716 may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BARREN- POHL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Compound for Cleaning and Polishing Metals, Porcelain, Glass, &c., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention is an improved compound for cleaning and polishing metals, porcelain, glass, &c., without injury to the same, and giving them a cleaner appearance and a higher luster than has been hitherto obtainable in compositions for this purpose, and, further, to accomplish this with little muscular exertion on the part of the user.
With these and other objects in view the compound consists of sal-soda, water, whiting, and ammonia mixed in substantially the following proportions and in the manner outlined:
in one pint of hot water is dissolved four ounces of sal-soda, which is thereafter added to two pounds of whiting mixed with seven pints of cold. water. These are thoroughly intermingled by stirring or shaking, after which two ounces of aqua-ammonia is added, twenty-eight per cent. strong.
The compound is now ready for use and is applied to the metal or porcelain surface with a cloth or other device and allowed to dry, the ammonia acting to hasten drying action, for which purpose it is added. When thoroughly dry, the compound is removed by a clean cloth, leaving the surface to which it.
