Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD W. MCFAR- REN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and 5 State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Polishing Compound, of which the following is a specification;
This invention relates to a polishing compound for the purpose of polishing metals of I 0 all kinds ,especially such as'brass and copper.
The advantage of this compound is that it does not contain any acid whichwould in any way affect the metals and that it will hold the polish or brightness for a considerable This composition or compound is formed of two pounds of-tripoli, one-fourth of a pound of rottenstone, onefourth of a pound of tallow, one-half of a pound of stearin, and one pint of petroleum- 20 oil refined. These ingredients are combined together and are .put up in any desired form and is applied in the usual manner to metal to be polished. The ingredients above named are mixed 5 together in the proportions specified and are laced in a suitable receptacle to which heat is applied until the parts have fused together, the ingredients being stirred. It is then cooled and pulverized and is used in apowder form. The powder is applied by a piece of feltor woolen cloth and is first moistened with a few drops of kerosene-oil. After the article has been scoured by the powder the I latter is wiped ofi and the article rubbed and brought to a polish with apiece of flannel having a small amount of the dry powder applied to the flannel.

What I claim is 1. A polishing compound composed of the following ingredients in proportion as follows, two pounds of tripoli, one-fourth of a pound of rottenstone, one-fourth of a pound of tallow, one-half of a pound of stearin and one pint of petroleum-oil.
2. A polishing compound composed of tripoli, rottenstone, tallow, stearin and petroleum-oil, the said ingredients being commingled.
