Application filed March 5, 1983. (No specimens.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE \V. BUCKA- LEW and PATRICK QUINN, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improved 5 Polishing Compound, of which the following is a specification.
The Various ingredients made use'of in our compound have been separately known. Our
- invention relates to the polishing material IO made by mixing the ingredients hereinafter named together in about the proportions specified, whereby we obtain an article that is adapted to the polishing of brass or iron, tinware, culinary utensils, and other metallic I5 surfaces, and it is in a form where there will be little or no loss from being spilled, and so that it may be easily spread upon a cloth or piece of leather or chamois and rubbed vigorously upon the article to be polished.
\Ve employ finely-pulverized chalk, in the proportion of about one pound to four ounces of peroxide of iron in a very fine powder, otherwise known as crocus or rouge. These materials are ground together with oleic acid, (about one ounce,) after which about 25 eight ounces of lard are added. This compound forms a polishing paste that does not dry or harden. It is to be put up in boxes, and is in condition for use at any time.
We claim as our invention The polishing-paste for metallic and other surfaces, composed of chalk and peroxide of iron in fine powder mixed with oleic acid and lard, substantially as set forth.
