Description

waited gomme @wat @twine Letters Patent No. 90,836, (lated June l, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN GREEN-CORN FORK.
The Scheule referred to in' these-Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WASHINGTON' L. GILROY, of the city of Philadelphia, in the State ofPennsylvauia, have invented a new and useful Green-Corn Fork for Table Use; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the application to a table-fork of a series of cutting-edges, whereby the skins or hulls ofthe grains of green corn, when boiled and brought warm to the table for use, can be readily divided orpcut across, so as to admit of the coutained pulp ofthe said grains being forced out or separated with facility, by means either of the tines or handle of the said fork, substantially as hereinafter described.
Referring to the drawing- A is a common table-fork, and
a a', the cutters applied thereto.
The cutters a a consist of aseries Aof small diskshaped plates, having cutting-edges secured at short distances apart, parallel with each other, across the back part of the fork, between the handle and the tines.
The series of cutters a a may be applied 'so as to be detachable for sharpening or scouring, it' so desired, and may be applied to forks having either long or short tines, or those combining the functions of a fork and spoon; and the required cutters may be constructed as sharp-edged continu-ations of the backs of the tines along the back of the: forli'or handle.
It will be seen that the application ofthe cutters specified to a table-fork or spoon-fork will not interfere with the functions of either as a fork or spoon, and that ready and effective means will be afforded for separating the pulp of the grains from the husksand cob with facility.
Having thus fully described myl invention,
lVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe application of cutting-edges to a table-fork or spoon-fork, substantially in the manner and for the purpose described.
XVitiiesscs: W. L. GILROY.
