Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 55,867, dated June 26, 1866.

To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, M. V. B. HOWE, of Ashburnham, Worcester county, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Combined Knife and Scissors Sharpener 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full.

` clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompa- Jityin g drawings, forming part ot this specifica- The present in ven tionrelates to a novel and useful combined knife and scissors Sharpener, whereby the sharpening of both knives and scissors can be accomplished with the utmost ease and facility, the Sharpener embraced in ihe present invention being extremely simple and cheap to manufacture, as will be apparent from the following detail description thereof,

reference bein g had to the accompanying plate handle, B, at each end, and a steel or other suitable metallic plate, C, secured to one side of the same between each of its two handles B, the two edges, both the upper and lower, of which plate are concave in shape and beveled, with the ends D of the same projecting over the angular notches E of the handle-bar, similarly beveled.

For the sharpening ofthe knife-blades the bladeis properly' drawn over either one of the concave beveled edges of the Sharpener-plate C, and for scissors by drawing the blades of the same over the beveled ends of the same plate through the angular notches E ofthe handlebar B.

From the above description of my combined knife and scissors sharpener it is plain to be seen that it is simple and cheap to manufacture,'yet most efficient and practicalquite important desiderata to secure.

I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of holder A, having angular notches E and concave Sharpener-plate C, as and for the purposes described.
