i Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 10, 1 907.
Application filed July 12' 1907. Serial No. 383-466.
T 0 all whom it may concern. Y
Be it known that I, JULIUS MALTBY, a citizen of the United States, residing at TVaterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garter-Slides; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and
re resent, m
lgure 1 a broken view in elevatlon of a roved art-er-slide may assume. Fig. 2 a etached view of the garter-slide as webbed and provided with a' sheet-metal supporter loop. Fig. 3 a detached view of the slide stripped of webbing. Fi s. 4 and 5 are de tac ed views of modifie forms which the slide may assume. My invention relates to an improvement in garter slides, the object being to produce a simple, compact and convenient slide adapted to be readily attached to and removed from the webbing of a garter.
With these ends in view my invention conof construction and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In ca out my invention as shown in 3 Figs. 1, 2 an 3, I employ a sheet-metal slide 1 having a wide strap-hke body portion 2 terminatlng at its respective ends in two corresponding vertically arranged garter-webbing s ots 3 the outer walls of which are broken near their lower ends to form downwardly extending suspension fingers 4, upturned retaining fingers 5 and lateral threading openings 6 located between the ends of the said fingers 4 and 5.
The upper edge of the body 2 is separated by a horizontal slide-webbing slot 7 from a pair of horizontal fingers 8 extending toward each other'tand separated by a threading} opening 9, while the lower edge of the body 2 is separated by a horizontal slide-webbing slot 10- from the fingers 11 of a, pair of horizontal fingers extending toward each other and separated by a slide-webbing threading opening 12. The said slots 7 and 10, fingers 8 and 11, and the threading openings 9 and 12 provide for the application to the slide of a short piece of webbing 13 from which the supplemental sheet-metal supporter loop 14 is suspended. The slide-web mg slots 7 and 10 are thus located between the garter-webbing slots 3 which extend above and below them.
The slide as a whole is applied to the garter-webbing 15 by hooking, so to speak, its suspension fingers 4 over the upper edge of the webbing 15 which enters the slots 3 through the lateral threading-o enings 6. When tlge slide llilas been drip]: own over the web 15 t e retaining ers 5 enga e with the l' o i ver edge of the webbing and Z- yenfthe slide from being accidentally li ed off the same. The slide when thus ap lied to the webbing 15 may be moved in one irection or the other to any desired position on the webbing 15,01 it may be slipped off the webbing 15 and restored thereto in any desired position thereon.
The modified construction shown by Fig. 4 corresponds to the construction already described except that the lateral threading openings 16 are located midway the length of the vertical slots 17., making the suspension figners 18 equal in length to the retaining fingers 19.
The modified construction shown by Fig. 5 corresponds substantially to the construction shown by Figs. 1, '2 and 3 with the difl erence TiJRBL'RY BUCKLE co.,oF
that the slots 20 have no lateral threading openings, but are made open at their lower ends as at 21. In this construction the suspension fingers 22 are aslong as the slots 20 and the retaining-fingers of the other two constructions are dispensed with. The cornerplate 23, the 100 24 and the fastening memer 25 may be 0 any approved construction,
the articular forms shown being chosen fingers separeted from its body by verticnl 10' mere y for illustration. slots entered by webb' 0 enings.
