CARRIAGE-CURTAIN FASTENER- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LAWRENCE J. LUCK- HAUPT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriage-Curtain Fasteners, of which the following is a specification containing a full,

- clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.

My invention relates to the improvements in carriage-curtain fasteners; and it consists of the novel features herein shown, described, and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective, upon an enlarged scale, showing my improved carriage-curtain fastener in use, the curtain and curtain frame being broken away to economize space. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation, upon a reduced scale, of the curtain and curtain-frame with the fasteners in position for use. Fig. 3 is a sectional detail, upon an enlarged scale, on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross-section substantially on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the curtain and illustrating the means of attaching the fastener to the curtain. Fig. 6 is a sectional detail upon the line 6 6 of Fig. 5.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the attaching-plate 10 has teeth 11 for insertion through the curtain 12. An oval eye 13 is placed against the lower face of the curtain 12 to be engaged by the teeth 11. The arm 14 extends from the attaching-plate 10 and is bent upwardly and backwardly upon itself to form the spring-tongue 15, said tongue being transversely corrugated to form the adjusting-teeth 16 and there being a handle 17 extending from the teeth 16.

The spring tongue member thus constructed is carried by the curtain and may be designated the curtain member of the fastener.

The curtain-frame member is applied to the curtain-frame 18 and consists of the top portion 19, the flange 20, extending downwardly from the top portion on three sides,

the teeth 21, extending from the flange through the curtain-frame 18, the plate 22, placed against the lower sides of the curtainframe 18 to be engaged by the teeth 21, and the lip 23, extending from the fourth edge of the top portion 19, so as to leave an elongated opening 24 to receive the spring-tongue, said opening 24 being several times as long as the width of the spring-tongue, as shown in Fig. 4, so that the spring-tongue may move up or down within the limits of said opening, the teeth 16 of the tongue engaging and interlocking with the lip 23.

I desire to call especial attention to the construction providing for the movement up or down of one member relative to theother, so

that when the two members are inaccurately applied or the curtain stretches or shrinks still the fasteners may be brought together.

The plurality of adjusting teeth 16 provides for transverse adjustment of the curtain and the sliding connection between the teeth 1 6, and the lip 23 provides for vertical adjustment. In this way I make allowance for inaccuracies in measurement, so that the curtains may be interchangeable and need not receive the exact and careful treatment required with other fasteners.

I claim- In an improved carriage-curtain fastener, the combination with a curtain-frame member comprising a housing having an elongated opening in one end, and a lip extending downwardly from the top of the housing over said opening, of a narrow spring-tongue bent double and secured at one end to the curtain, and the free end of which tongue is provided with a series of transverse bends to form teeth for engaging the lip of the housing; substantially as specified.
