Description
MAXAMILIAN JAEGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
MATCH-HOLDER.
Specification of ,Letters Patent.
' Application filed January 22, 1906. Serial No. 297.189.
Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
To all whom it may concern: w
'Be it known that I, MAXAMILIAN JAEGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borou h of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and tate of New York, have invented a new and Improved Match-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in match-holders, the object being to provide a device of this character that may be attached to a wall or similar support and adapted to hold a full box of matches and so construct-' ed that the matches will automaticallyfeed downward to be removed one at a time, thus preventing waste of matches and obviating danger from fire by matches falling on the floor and igniting "by a person's shoes, as sometimes happens.
I will describe amatch holder embodyin -my invention and then point out the nove features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of .this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicateicorresponding parts in both figures;
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a matchholder embodying my invention,,and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof.
The match-holder consists of a box 1, of any suitable material as, for instance, metal the said box having an opening at its top provided with a cover, here shown a hinged connection with the box; bui it may be otherwise applied without departing from. the spirit of my invention.
The back ll of the box near the top is provided with an "opening 3 for receiving a nail or the like, and a similar openin 4 is formed in a downward extension 5 of said back 'wall, and this extension is provided witha roughened or abrading surface 6, on which the matches may be scratched.
t the lower portion of the boxis a tray 7 for receiving matches, this tray being providedat its center with a notch 8, so that a person may conveniently grasp a match with his thumb and forefinger. 1
The front wall 9 at the bottom above the ,tray is inclined downward and rearward and having.
is provided at the center with an opening 10, so that matches may be readily reached for agitating the same should the matches become clogged or stuck in the box.
At the sides of the opening 10 are downwardly and outwardly curved members 11, which serve as guides to direct matches into the tray and hold the same straight across the tray. The bottom rear wall 12 is inclined downward and forward, so that the matches will slide down the same under neath the guidemembers 10. The front of the tray at the bottom has a trough-shaped portion 13 adapted to receive a single match which is tobe removed.
A match-holder embodying my invention is very simple in construction, inexpensive,
and, as before stated, will practically revent the Waste of matches or the accidenta out of the matches.
While I have described the device as a holder for matches, it is obvious that it may pi used as a holder for toothpicks or the falling Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent Amatch-holder consisting of a box adapted to receive matches with their original-packages, a rear wall of the box being provided with a nail-openin near the top, the said well also havinga ownward extension prodownwardly-convided with a nail-opening ver ent, front and rear walls at the lower end of t e box, the said inclined rear wall terminating in a forwardly-projecting tray having a trough in its front portion for receiving a single match, the bottom of said tray having an outwardlyopening notch, the said front wall having an opening, and guide members projecting downward at opposite sides of'the opening. l
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presenceof two subscribing witnesses.
MAXAM'ILIAN JAEGEB.
Witnesses I ALBERT REICHENBACH, Tnnonon Issue.
