To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EMIL SHERMAN, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Foot-Rests, of which the following is a specification. Y

This invention relates to a simple and inexpensive device which affords a portable and adjustable foot-rest adapted to be used in connection with easy-chairs, rockers, barber-chairs, and the like, and it is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same.

In the drawings, refers to a box-like receptacle adapted to hold newspapers or slippers, for'instance. The ends of this box are segmental or curved in shape, as shown at 11, and 11 represents a series of pin-holes in the upper edge of said end, adapted to receive pins 11 for limiting or adjusting the movement of the foot-rest. The pins limit the swing of the foot-rest, or by setting them close together it will be held fixed. Two pivoted arms 15 are attached to the ends of the box, and between these arms is a cross-piece 13, which strikes the sto -pins. Mounted upon the arms 15 and forming up er sections thereof are two arms 12, having s ots 14. and thumbscrews 14*,which clamp said sections and regulate the height of the foot-rest. At the top of the arms 12 is a pivoted foot-board 16, having a cushion 1 6 which provides a foot-rest. The foot-rest may be moved into different positions, and the extent of its movement can be adjusted by the pins 11'. The height can'be adjusted by the slot and thumb-screw connection.

The device is especially useful for supporting the feet and legs of a person sitting in a rocking-chair, in which case the foot-rest will swing back and forth as the person is rocking, thus accommodating itself to the movement of the rocker.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A foot-rest comprising a base-box having a series of holes-in its ends and stop-pins in said holes, extensible arms pivoted to said ends and having a cross-piece arranged to strike against said stops, and a pivoted foot-board carried between said arms.
