JACOB 's'ILBE M EE AND GUSTAV UNGER, OF NEW YORK. N; Y., ASSIGNORS T0 THEMSELVES AND JACOB HEINEMANN,- OF SAME PLACE.
Letters Patent No. 74,4s, dated February .11, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIES.
TO ALL WHOM 1']? MAY CONCERN;
Be it known that we; JACOB SILBERMANN and Gos'rA'v Unsure, of the city and State of New York, have invented end made a certain new unduscful Improvement in Neck-Ties; end we do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and cxuct description of the same, reference being had tothc annexed drawing, milking part of this specification, wherein we have represented said neck-tie as laid out flat.
Heretofore silk and other fabrics have been made up into neck-ties and cravets ofvarious shapes by cutting out the fabric and uniting it by sewing so as to produce the desired shape. Crnvat-s have been thus formed with an arrow centre portion to pass around at the backof the neck, and'with wider ends to tie into a knot or bow.
The seams formed in cravats are very liable to wear, and under all circumstances they detract from the appearance and from the durability of the fabric or of the article;
The nature of our said invention consists in a. cravator necktie woven in one piece, with lhe end portions wider than the middle ports, the-fabric tapering and becoining wider towards both ends.
This'neck-t-ie is a. new article of manufacture, that is much more durable and handsome than the cruvats or neck-ties heretofore made, and the seams are entirely dispensed with.
In the drawing, a is the middle portion of the neck-tie, that is woven of a. uniform width, or nearly so, and the end portions 5 b are woven in u, tapering form, increasingin width to whatever e'xtentis desired.
This necktie may be woven of the aforesaid character, either as a. single flnt piece or as a double or tubular fabric; and the article made in this manner. is anew and useful manufacture.
What we claim,- and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 215 a. new article of manufacture, is--- A necktie formed in one piece by weaving, with the end portions diverging from'ond wider than the middle: portion of the article, as set forth. A A A y In witness whereof, we have hereunto set our signatures, this 20th day of December, D. 1867.
