DESIGN FOR A CARPET-PATTERN.
m The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all whom it may conce/m Be it known that I, ISRAEL FOSTER, of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have originated a new Design for a Pattern to be inwrought into Carpets or other fabrics; and I do hereby declare that the accompanying drawing, and following explanation thereof, form a full, clear, and exact description of the said design.
In the drawing, the figure represents suicicnt of a carpet or other fabric to illustrate the design.
The body or ground-work of the fabric is made up of stripes a and b of different shades, and of varying widths.
A A represent portions (equivalent to one-quarter) of the principal member of the pattern, the remaining three-quarters of the member being merely a repetition of that which is shown.
This member A consists of' a square or diamondshaped figure, formed of the bars c, which figure is intersected by bars d and el', crossing each other at right angles.
The member A is surrounded by ornamental iigures, composed of stems, leaves, and ilowers, and the internal ornamentation of the bars c, d, and d', is too clearly shown in the drawing to need description.
B B are small figures, of a the members A, and arranged, with respect to the lat# ter, as illustrated.
The iigures B are connected by a diagonal, vine-like ornament, f, which, in its general direction, is parallel with the bars c ofthe principal members A.
Irrespective ofthe colors employed,
I claim the design for the pattern of a carpet or other fabric, substantially as represented in and by the accompanying drawing.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
