TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONCERN:
Be it knownvithat I7 J. S. REID, of Orange, in the county of Fayette, and State of Indiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Single Harness; and I do hereby declare that the following is a fullfielea'r, v
and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in single harness, and consists in 'an arrangement of parts, whereby the breeching, hip-strap, and the greater portion of the traces are entirely dispensed with, presenting the additional advantage of edel-ing nothing for the lines to catch in. In the accompanying drawingsr Figure I is a side view of a single harness with my improvement applied, and
Figure 2 is a top view of my improvement detached from the harness.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
The drawings' exhibit the-application of my improvement to one trace and one shaft only. It is of course applied to both when in use.
A is the shaft, B the back-strap, O C the substitutes for the trace, consisting of two short straps, whereof C hooks or secures on to the shaft at e, and is buckled to the loop-strap D, the loop embracing the back-strap D at d. C hooks or secures on to the shaft at c, and is also buckled to the loop-strap D, which may be done, as shown in the drawing, bythe same fastening as that which holds the chest-strap E, or by any other appropriate contrivauce. Instead of the straps C C', asingle strap might be looped or otherwise secured upon the baelbstrap, and then hooked or secured to the shaft in front and rear, but this arrangement would not be so convenient as the use of the two straps C C', as above described.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The straps C C', when combined with the back-strap E and shaft A, substantially as above set forth and described.
J. S. REID. Witnesses WILLIAM CoNNER, R. A. Avans.
