TO ALL WIIOMIT MAY vCONCERN: y
Be it known that I, MANUEL IIRZ, of East New York, in the county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Dining-Table.; andI do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact.
description thereof', which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters marked thereon.
This invention relates to a novel application of a revolving dish-holder to a dining-table, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby any one of the numberl of persons seated at the table may, without any l difficulty whatever, help himself to any article of food en the dish-holder, and without disturbing any of the company at the table; the invention also admitting of a tablecloth being used-a result not hitherto attained with revolving dish-holders. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is n. vertical section of my invention, taken in the line :c fr, g. 3.l
Figure 2, a vertical section of the same, taken in the line y y, iig. 4.
Figures 3 and 4, plans or top views of gs. l and 2. v
Figure 5, a detached inverted plan of the base on which the ,dish-holder levolvcS.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A represents the platform or top of the table, supported by legs ax, as usual. At the centre of thc top A there is made a circular hole, having a rebate, a, made entirely around it, of rather narrow width, and another rebate, b, around a, of a much greater width than the latter, as shown clearly in iigs. 1 and 2. B representsA a circular base, which rests on the rebate a, andlls 'the lower` part of the circular opening in the table. This base, B, is provided with a central upright pin, e, and has an annular groove, c2, extending around; it, near its periphery. C is the revolving dish-holder, which has a central hole, e, made through it, to receive the pin c of the base, B. The dish-holder has rollersf attached to-its under side, to work in the groove d, and obviate fricy tion as the dish-holder is turned. Instead of rollers, balls or spheres of India rubber may be used, and it is believed that they would he preferable'in practice.
With this arrangement a table-cloth, shown in red, iig; 1, may he used, the cloth being spread over the top of the table, and the base, B, being inserted in the hole over the cloth. In cases where preferable or desired,
the hole in the table-top may be filled by a circularpiece, D, the upper surface of the latter being flush with the upper surface of the table-top, and the base, B, of the dish-holder provided with rollers g..
By this arrangement the dish-holder. is elevated somewhat, making it more convenientto grasp or turn, and by having a string attached to the base, B, any person seated at the table may draw the dish-holder towards him, should it not be within convenient reach.
I do not claim broadly a revolving dish-holder for a dining-table, for they have been previously used, but
I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Y The arrangement of the grooved base, B, and top, C, with the table A, when the tablc-cloth is adapted to be spread over the table and beneath the base, B, in such a manner as to permit the top, C, to revolve without its rollers coming in contact with the table-cloth, as herein shown and described.
The above specication of my invention signed by me, this 23d day of September, 1867.
l MANUEL PIRZ.
