IMPROVED culmine-FRAME,
tite rlgehule Infant tu in Hirse tittets nteut mit making im uf tige samt.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I, A`ARON S. WINNER, of the county of Clark, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Quilting-Frame; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being 'had to the accompanying drawings.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of the self-supporting trestles or benches with the gains, in combination with the wheels and catches, arranged in the manner and for the purpose herein set forth.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its 4construction and operation. i
The two rails used in quilting may be round or eight-square. In the ends of the rails is placed a cast gndgeon upon which the rails turn. At one end of each of the rails, and at the end of the gudgeon, is a ragwheel with a Vcatch attached to prevent the rails from turning, the rag-wheel and gudgeon being cast in one, thus securing the proper tension to the quilt. There is an adjustable crank or handle, made so that it will fit on the' end of the gudgeon of eitherl rail on which the rag-Wheel is fixed, by which the tension aforesaid is secured. There are two trestles or benches of the height of lau' ordinary table, near the ends of which are cut gains into whivch'is dropped each end of the rails, thus forming a framework which will stand without further support. To adjust the quiltA in this frame, it is fastenedtothe rails by tacks or any other convenient process. The quilt is then rolled on one of the rails and fixed so that-'the other rail .will roll the quilted portion in an opposite direction, by which operation itis heldthat the lining and upper surface of the quilt is kept even and equal.
What I claim as my invention, and wish to secure by :Letters Patent, is
The construction of'` the self-supporting trestles or -b'ehehes with the gains, in combination with the wheels and catches, arranged in the'manner and for the purpose described. l
` AARON S. WINNER.
